The rainforest zone of Kilimanjaro is thick and lush and home to many different bird and monkey species, such as blue monkeys or colobus. What should you expect on this trip? Tarangire National Park is awaiting you with its mighty baobab trees, huge elephant population, and an animal and landscape diversity that steals the heart of every African traveler. Itinerary

Day 1
Kilimanjaro Day Hike

  

• Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

• Rising(ft): (1,800m/5,905ft) to (2,743m/9,000ft)

• Hiking time: 8-10 hours

• Elevation Gain: 915 meters, 3,000 feet

Hiker(s) will leave Moshi early in the morning to depart for Marangu Gate. The drive will take approximately 1 hour. What should you expect today? After completing gate registration, you will begin your Kilimanjaro Day Hike. 

Walking along a narrow trail through the rainforest of Kilimanjaro up to Mandara Hut you will meet mountain climbers descending from the top of Kilimanjaro. At Mandara Hut you will have your lunch and the possibility to take a short walk to the Maundi Crater. The views to the East over Taveta and to the Northwest to Mawenzi Peak are stunning on a clear day, making the short hike well worth the effort. 

You will then have the opportunity to take photos once arriving at Maundi Crater before descending to the Marangu Gate. Our vehicles will be waiting at Marangu Gate to take you back to Moshi.
