The Machame Route, also known as the Whiskey Route, is one of the most scenic and recommended routes on Kilimanjaro. This popular route with trails cuts through beautiful forests to get a ridge that leads through moor areas to the Shira Plateau. It then crosses the ice cliffs of the Southern Ice Sheet to join the Barafu Road to the top. Because it can be done for longer periods and the tilt is more manageable, the conference success rate is much higher. Duration: 6- or 7-days Difficulty: medium Landscape: amazing Traffic: High Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be picked up and dropped off overnight at the 4-star Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel B&B. Itinerary

Day 1
MACHAME GATE - MACHAME CAMP

10.75K / 7MI | 5-6 hours | TROPICAL FOREST Elevation: 1811m / 5942ft to 3021m / 9911ft Height achieved: 1210m

Departing from Moshi, a 45-minute drive will take you through Machame village to the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park. We will patiently wait for permits to be issued while monitoring the bustle of operations as more crews prepare for the journey ahead. Enjoy beautiful rainforest vistas and windswept trails as your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend walking and hiking poles here.
