Retreat Schedule

Monday, April 14

Arrive in the late afternoon or by dinnertime. Get settled, enjoy a warm welcome, and unwind before a week of knitting magic!

Tuesday, April 15

đŸ§¶ Knitting Tips and Tricks You May Not Know (2 hours – AM or PM)
A fun and informative class covering tips from A-Z and tricks from 1-50! From shaping sleeves to estimating yardage, to hand exercises and making your stitches sing—this workshop will transform the way you knit.

Wednesday, April 16

đŸ§¶ 50 Shades of Sweaters OR 50 Shades of Shawls (3 hours – AM)
Campers’ choice! We will decide beforehand via email.

  • 50 Shades of Sweaters: Never knit a sweater? Or knit some that didn’t fit quite right? Learn from 60 different sweater styles as Cori demonstrates what works (and what doesn’t). You’ll discover how to fix common issues—like a gaping neckline, too-long sweaters, or sleeves that never seem right. Plus, find out how a well-knit sweater can flatter your body shape!
  • 50 Shades of Shawls: Think shawls aren’t for you? Maybe it’s all in the construction, styling, or yarn choice! Explore different shapes, colors, and techniques to create shawls you’ll actually love to wear. We’ll even discuss ponchos, stoles, and scarves—anything that goes around your neck!

đŸ§¶ How to Use Ravelry Like a Pro (2.5 hours – PM)
Ravelry is a powerful tool—but are you using it to its full potential? Learn to:
✅ Search for patterns & substitute yarns
✅ Catalog your stash & needles
✅ Track your projects
✅ Join groups, find discontinued yarn, and more!
đŸ’» Materials Needed: Laptop or tablet, Ravelry ID & password, notebook & pen.

Thursday, April 17

đŸ§¶ Fixer Upper: Problem Knits & How to Fix Them (90 minutes – AM)
Have a sweater, shawl, or other knitwear that just isn’t working? This class is all about bringing old, unloved projects back to life. Bring your problem knits and get expert advice on fixing and improving them! Class participation is required—so be sure to bring something for a makeover.

đŸ§¶ When Knitting Goes Wrong: Fixing Mistakes (Bonus Content Available)
Learn to fix 6-10 of the most common mistakes that trip up advanced beginners, including:
đŸ§· Tinking & frogging
đŸ§· Changing purls to knits (and vice versa)
đŸ§· Laddering dropped stitches back up
đŸ§· Removing accidental yarn overs
đŸ§· Picking up stitches from multiple rows down
🔖 A handout will be provided for those who prefer written instructions.

The Bear Creek Bunny Retreat with Teresa was an amazing experience! I learned so much about needle felting and creating these whimsical characters. Teresa is a wonderful teacher. The Nome Schoolhouse is a inspiring place to learn so many different fiber arts skills.

What an amazing experience! I learned more about fiber processing than I expected. The time in the fiber mill was priceless. Chris's excitement and enthusiasm was infectious and you could tell fiber is her passion. The accommodations and meals were great! All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. I feel lucky that this place is less than 2 hours from me. I hope to be back for a meal, shopping, or another retreat!

This was another FANTASTIC weekend at Nome Schoolhouse as our annual FCS retreat. Blessed to have this opportunity in our rural state. Chris is a phenomenal host and a 'Jack of all Trades,' ALWAYS willing to go above and beyond to make the customer feel at home. A relaxing weekend of fun, food, and friends!! :)

BEAUTIFUL setting. The perfect place for a quiet retreat or small wedding, family reunion, etc. The old schoolhouse has been restored so incredibly well. Definitely a one of a kind place! The food is AMAZING and service can't be beat. I have visited three years in a row and they just keep getting better! Definitely recommend going out of your way to see this place!
