After arriving in Kodiak this afternoon, we’ll make the scenic 45-minute drive to our accommodations in the historic Alutiiq village of Chiniak. Friends by the Ocean sits on 30 acres of pristine ocean and lakefront, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by beaches, forest, and wide-open views. This tranquil setting provides an ideal introduction to Kodiak’s coastal landscapes, with opportunities to spot eagles, seabirds, foxes, and the island’s rich marine life right from the property.
This evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner featuring local flavors and a chance to meet your fellow travelers. As night falls, we’ll keep an eye on the aurora forecast—late summer occasionally brings early-season glimpses of the northern lights.
Accommodations: Friends by the Ocean (Cama’i House)
Meals: Dinner
Important Note: Cama’i House offers seven spacious bedrooms, allowing everyone the option of a private room. The home has four bathrooms, and while some guests may share one, the overall comfort and charm of the house—and being together under one roof—far outweigh this detail. Breakfasts and two dinners will be enjoyed right at the house, creating a relaxed, home-style atmosphere. Lunches will be takeout from local restaurants or served on the boat during our sea day.
