About this trip

Alaska’s Kodiak Island is a place defined by wild edges—rugged coastlines, braided rivers, and sweeping mountain vistas that meet the sea. Often referred to as the “real Alaska,” Kodiak offers an unparalleled blend of coastal ecology, marine wildlife, and iconic brown bears. As summer edges toward fall, daylight softens, salmon spawn, and wildlife activity is at its peak.

This five-day journey highlights the richness of Kodiak’s late-summer season. You’ll explore by boat, by road, and on foot—encountering humpback whales, puffins, otters, eagles, and, with luck, Kodiak’s legendary bears. With long views, open shorelines, and uncrowded routes, this expedition offers abundant opportunities for wildlife observation and photography.

In true Reefs to Rockies style, the pace is relaxed yet immersive. Whether you’re drawn by the marine mammals, the bears, or the dramatic interplay of land and sea, this is Alaska as few experience it.

Join Reefs to Rockies on this late-summer wildlife expedition to Kodiak Island. You’ll travel alongside expert naturalist Sheridan Samano and a small group of fellow adventurers, exploring one of North America’s most remarkable coastal ecosystems.
