Lycian Way: Walk unspoilt coastal and mountain paths with breath taking views down to the Turquoise Coast.
Life in a travel bag will take you on a trekking and beach tour along one of Turkey’s most beautiful trekking routes. Explore the ruins and where blue meets green.
Trekking along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey - on the famous “Lycian trail." High in the mountains, literally walk along the coast of ancient Lycia, where most of the sites in the bays are near the beach. It is approximately 540 km long. The route was researched by Kate Clow, a British woman living in Turkey in 1999.
Lycia’s History - A Struggle for Freedom
According to Clow, the history of Lycia is a story of fierce struggles against those who sought to invade and dominate it, as it was a very desirable region. It appears that Greek efforts to colonize Lycia during the first millennium B.C. were largely unsuccessful even though there were several Athenian expeditions. Is it physically hard to complete? The Lycian Way is not a long distance walk – it’s a proper hike. Hiking boots and gear are necessary, the trail is rough and there is lots of climbing and descending along the coast line.
Some key features along the walk:
• Rugged terrain, though mostly on good-quality trails.
• Jaw-dropping scenery combining rugged mountains, bustling agricultural deltas, endless coastline with turquoise waters and pristine beaches, charming towns and villages, hidden craggy coves, burning rocks, caves, and more.
• Delicious food. Really, really delicious food! Seriously. Delicious.
• Ancient ruins everywhere (you’ll literally be tripping over them).
• Deservedly famous Turkish hospitality, especially in the remote communities.
• Plenty of opportunities for swimming
