Late afternoon introduction to Lagos culture via a relaxed hangout at Freedom Park, a memorial and leisure park formerly Her Majesty’s Broad Street Prison. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary independence celebration in 2010. The park serves as a National Memorial, a Historical landmark, a Cultural site, Arts and Recreation centre. Our Lagos intro is only complete after a drive through the economic nerve centre of Ikoyi and then the iconic Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge (where Mark Zuckerberg famously jogged on his visit to Lagos) before tasting the world famous jollof rice for dinner at a trendy restaurant in Lekki.
After breakfast we visit Ovuomaroro Studio and Gallery, one of the oldest galleries in Nigeria owned by the legendary Bruce Onobrakpeya, a recipient of the Living Human Treasure Award (2006) by UNESCO. Bruce Onobrakpeya is a Nigerian printmaker, painter and sculptor who has exhibited in museums around the world including the Tate Modern in London, the National Museum of African Art of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the Malmö Konsthall in Malmö, Sweden. Perhaps we will have the chance to take a selfie with the legend himself?
We start the day with a visit to Onikan House, an early 1900s restored building serving as an arts exhibition space and museum. Visits to two other art galleries follow, first – ReLe Gallery, a contemporary art gallery featuring thought-provoking artworks from a variety of artists. Thereafter Omenka Gallery, a leading art gallery in Nigeria and Africa, representing a fine selection of established and emerging contemporary Nigerian and international artists working in diverse media. With a particular focus on ensuring a sustainable presence for Nigerian and African art within a larger global context, Omenka regularly participates in major international art events like; Art Dubai, UAE; The Armory Show, New York; the Joburg Art Fair; Cape Town Art Fair; Cologne Paper Art; LOOP, Barcelona; the London Art Fair and 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London.
Today is a special day as we visit the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, a dream project of Prince Yemisi Shyllon, one of the largest collectors of art in the world and principal benefactor of the YSMA. The Museum donated to the Pan Atlantic University houses over a thousand artworks from famous artists like Ben Enwonwu, Uche Okeke, Victor Ekpuk and Bruce Onobrakpeya.
Late morning visit to Nike Art Gallery. It is owned by Nike Davies-Okundaye, and is one of the largest of its kind in West Africa, boasting a collection of about 8,000 diverse artworks from various Nigerian artists like Chief Josephine Oboh Macleod. The gallery is housed in a five-storey building. Afterwards we stop at the nearby Lekki Arts & Crafts Market for some souvenir shopping.

Today you get to become art itself as you dress up like a Lagos Socialite and attend a real Nigerian wedding. Nigerian weddings are famous for their food, colour and rhythm. Like they say, “there is no party like a Lagos party”.
Today is YOUDay – Tell us what you want to do in Lagos. (shopping, volunteering, visiting an attraction, or just lazing on the beach, we will make it happen. Optional -at own cost). Late evening check-outs for late night departures.
