Walk to Laguna Torre and carry on to Mirador Maestri with a local mountain guide from Fitz Roy Expediciones.
Starting and ending in El Chaltén, the trail follows the Fitz Roy River through lenga forest to the moraine above Laguna Torre, where most people turn back. We carry on along the crest of the moraine, on the north shore, to Mirador Maestri: the Grande Glacier below you and Cerro Torre in front.
Mirador Maestri is the end of the trail: going further, towards the Grande Glacier or Paso Solo, is not allowed. The moraine stretch is narrow and exposed to the wind, so the guide decides on the day whether we go on.
About 20 km there and back, around 660 metres of climbing, 8 to 9 hours. Moderate to demanding.
Past the lake, to Mirador Maestri
From El Chaltén we follow the Fitz Roy River through lenga forest to the moraine above Laguna Torre, with icebergs in the water. Most people stop here. We walk on along the moraine crest, about 40 minutes, to Mirador Maestri, look down on the Grande Glacier, have lunch and return to town on the same trail.
