Our guides pick you from the hotel in one of our Land Rover Defender or Chevrolet TrailBlazer 4x4. We head to the north of the island along National Route 3 where we will observe the recognized winter centers of Ushuaia (and one of the most popular: Cerro Castor).

We’ll cross the Cordillera de los Andes until we arrive at a beautiful panoramic point of view to observe both Lakes. This point is known as the Garibaldi Pass. Here we ‘ll stop to take a few pictures. After that we started the real 4x4 adventure. We’ll cross paths of mud and water until we reach the imposing shore of *Fagnano Lake*. At this point, we get off the vehicles for a moment to contemplate this extraordinary place and its particular energy as well as to have a short morning snack.

We continue our day until we park in the middle of the forest, to take a short walk of approximately 10 to 15 minutes to our Shelter near of *Escondido Lake*, where we enjoy a delicious bite of cold cuts and choripan as an appetizer, while our guides cook a delicious roast narrow steak, which we accompany with salads and Malbec wine. Then, we explore the lake (Escondido) in *canoes* and top-of-the-line equipment, combining good exercise, relaxation and contemplation of nature. At the end of this activity, we return to Ushuaia in our vehicules.

The total time between preparation and canoeing is 45 min' (the paddling is approximately 20/25 minutes).

*The order of activities may vary due to operational or climatic reasons and canoeing may eventually be suspended for safety reasons.

Activities:

  • Visit to Escondido and Fagnano Lakes.
  • Off Road 4x4 Circuit.
  • Trekking through the forest.
  • Lunch at shelter.
  • Canoe trip in Escondido Lake (subject to weather conditions and it depends on the guide's decision).

We wanted to inform you that in accordance with the environmental emergency regulation due to the forest fire that we are suffering in Tierra del Fuego (at the Corazón de la Isla area and the recent outbreak in Lago Escondido), we had to modify our excursion of Lakes 4x4 & Canoas, since that the same norm establishes the prohibition of lighting fires in wild areas (which affects our refuge in the middle of the forest). Therefore, at the moment, lunches will be provided at the Parador La Casona de Mary.

-3 course lunch

🥟 Empanada

🥩 Chorizo steak with garnish

🍮 Dessert + drinks

NOTE: We will continue doing the canoeing activity on the shores of Escondido Lake, whenever the weather allows it.

Back in 2003 we did these excursions with a different agency. After 20 years we went back with my son his new family and his 2 boys ages 4 & 7. The boys love cars and SUV’s and we all love the Land Rover’s Defenders. So when I saw that we could still do the same off road excursion to the wild Tierra del Fuego on the Defenders, I booked this 4X4 excursion. We all enjoyed it to the max. It was an experience to never forget. We were 5 adults and 2 children so we were divided in 2 Defenders. Both drivers were excellent and the narrative about the region’s geography and history was of academic level. Due to recent wild fires in the region we could not do the ‘asado a la parrilla’ at the refuge. So they took us to a ‘Posada.’ the food was very good and the staff very friendly. We all enjoyed the walk by the 2 lakes, Fagnano y Escondido. Late-morning we had a morning snack with regional pastries and coffee or tea in the wilderness. Unfortunately due to bad weather -strong winds- we could not get on the canoes, but the trip was well worthy. The next day we went to the Penguin's Island. What an experience for the little ones! The penguins let us get quite close to them. We remained on the island close to an hour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about he lives and biology of the fauna. We also saw 2 seals close to shore and number of local birds including the Cauquenes. What an experience!!!! I was very fortunate to have been able to bring my family to this exclusive site on earth.

I had such a great time with the TiERRA team! They were incredibly helpful and responsive through the booking and planning and once I was in Ushuaia. The tours are great - you get to see a true local’s view of this beautiful part of the world. The guides are friendly and very knowledgeable, and these tours are thoughtfully designed. Many thanks to Aye, Christian, and Tommy for such a great experience! Would highly recommend!

Mateus was an amazing guide. Knowledgeable and so much fun. The experiences were fabulous and he had lots of knowledge. Food was excellent except for Kaiken Inn. Dinner on the second night was not edible but no one seemed to care. The lunch on the last day with Diane was fabulous. An absolute must and a great way to end the tour. Thank you for a wonderful time!
