My wife and I had an absolute blast with the Herping excursion that Carlos took us on. We saw a lot of frogs, scorpions and tarantulas. You could really tell that the guide loved what he did which makes things a lot more fun. I would highly recommend any animal lover to go on this treck. Its easy on the body and you can keep away from the bushes if you don't like spiders.

Excellent birdwatching tour with Carlos. So many birds & butterflies. A very special day on our holiday 

Carlos was lightning fast at ID'ing birds. We saw 30+ lifers, which rocked! So many toucans and eastern migratory birds we see every summer. We weren't expecting so much roadside birding vs walking trails, but I appreciate the ability to experience local villages. I wish we had more time to talk about the individual species a bit more - I love learning weird bird facts. Wherever he took us for quesadillas was 10/10.

My sister and I, both now seniors, booked this tour. We have birded for 40 years. Our guide was Carlos. As soon as we were picked up, I discussed our target birds. After a long pause, Carlos said he would amend his planned tour due to the different habitats our target birds lived in.
The areas we went to were mostly restricted areas. They included areas off road in the jungle, abandoned structures, sidelots of private residences and other spots. Hardly any walking at all. As soon as we got out of the car, target birds were there, tons of birds feeding on the abundance of fruits and insects. Fast and furious birding with Carlos quickly identifying and getting us on the birds. Highlights were the Turquoise browed motmot, 3 trogon species, toucans, multiple parrot species including a sensitive species hidden in our eBird list and too many other birds to list. I ended up with an impressive 66 species list and an astonishing 47 lifers in a half day tour!
I cannot compliment Carlos enough. He is highly skilled, knowledgeable and respectful of the birds and their environments. He is passionate about birding and eager to share in the awe we experienced while viewing birds. It would be an honor to bird again with him.
Things to know: You will see a ton of birds. Bathroom facilities are primitive but sufficient. Carlos will graciously tailor the tour to your birding experience and physical needs. If you want to bird from a fancy Greyhound Tour Bus with 50 other people, this is not the tour for you. If you want an authentic Yucatan birding experience, go. 
I have enjoyed all bird tours but this one tops the list. Trust me, especially in foreign countries you want a guide or you won’t be able to identify the birds and will just get frustrated. Don’t even think about trying it on your own.

Our guide for the day was Carlos, who picked us up directly from the hotel.  He was very communicative and friendly from the start, keeping in touch before picking us up. As he drove to our first birding site, he got to know us, our interests in birding, and what we hoped to see.  Carlos was extremely knowledgable not only with regards to birding, but also in the history of the area.  He brought us to several areas, introducing over 50 new lifers for us.  His excitement hearing and spotting different species seemed genuine and he ensured we got to spot what he spotted.  He also shared the list for us as well as some photographs he was able to get.  I would highly recommend Carlos if you are a serious birder or not.

I’m an avid birding enthusiast, and wanted to experience nature around the Cancun area while at our resort. I was treated to a truly memorable outing by my outstanding guide Carlos Tec, and saw such amazing things. Spider Monkeys, Toucans, a Bat Falcon, a Barred Forest Falcon, and a long list of many other beautiful birds! I believe we logged a total of 31 species during our outing. I can’t wait to get back and do it again!

The experience is a bit misleading in terms of how ethical it is conducted. 
I was told it was peak of the season and huge numbers of whale sharks. When we arrived out to see it seems like approx 40 boats all following 2/3 whale sharks. 
I was told max two people in the water with the whale shark at a time but in reality it was 4 from our boat plus another 4 from another boat ( 2/3 minutes in the water). We got two chances to swim with the whale shark. I don’t think there is much monitoring of the regulations out at sea.  Carlos was very knowledgeable. We had plenty snacks. We booked direct and Carlos took photos with his go pro for free.

Carlos was an excellent guide and extremely knowledgeable about the birds and wildlife. Very accommodating.

We had a wonderful time bird watching with our guide, Carlos. To say the least, he was outstanding. We are novice birders and during the drive to our destination, Carlos educated us on bird sighting terminology, and about the environment and ecology of the region. Our time was spent at his “secret”, easy to access locations in picturesque jungles and near quaint Mayan villages. Carlos was hoping to treat us to spotting at least 20 different species of birds. Instead, we saw an incredible 43 bird types! We were thrilled and impressed that Carlos created a personalized list on eBird.org that links to photos and bird information, comprehensively documenting our trip, including some excellent photos that he captured with a telephoto lens. The tour was topped with a delicious quesadilla prepared by a charming Mayan woman at her street-side cantina. It was a perfect experience that I would highly recommend to beginners or veteran birders.

Carlos was very knowledgeable and friendly -- we had a great time and saw around 60 species over the course of the morning -- motmot, trogon, aracari, etc. etc., including several endemics. Highly recommend!

The perfect bird tour doesn’t exi…..oh wait: yes it does, because we just took it. We loved this half-day tour with Contoy. Carlos was incredible: a passionate and knowledgeable birder who customized our outing perfectly according to our location, the weather conditions, our birding knowledge and interests, and the fact that we only had a few hours. Saw over 50 species up close—including a ferruginous pygmy owl, a turquoise-browed motmot, toucans, and so much more. Thank you Carlos and Contoy!

Our family of 5 took the birding tour out of Cancun. Carlos was  SUCH a good guide! He was chatty, personable and so amazing at calling the birds and spotting them! His excitement at seeing some species was contagious! My three teens aren’t the quietest and we came in May during the off season so we didn’t expect oodles of endemic birds, but as Carlos patiently helped them see each bird, my teens grew more excited, and we saw 46 different species!  Even better, he helped us find flying toucans which my 3 teens are still talking about .  As a bonus, we saw a huge troop of monkeys (which thrilled my 17 yo son). I fully recommend Carlos. Unlike some companies, when our flight to Cancun was cancelled and we had to juggle our bookings, I contacted him,; he worked with us and allowed us to bump our tour to another day. Definitely worth the money. 

We had a wonderful trip. Carlos was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and personable, we learned a lot and saw some amazing birds. Pick up and drop off went exactly as described. Would highly recommend.. A brunch snack at a local cafe was an unexpected treat.

We had a wonderful birdwatching trip with our guide Lugo. Prior to the trip we had good communication from the company regarding pickup location and times. The day of the trip we had a prompt pickup. Lugo was an excellent guide, great at spotting birds and also making sure the group was able to have a good look at them. We had a nice group of 5 which was not over crowded in the van and everyone was friendly. The food provided was tasty. We spotted over 40 species of birds on our trip and were very pleased with the entire experience. I would highly recommend this company and especially Lugo!

Lugo was absolutely magnificent. His depth of knowledge was deeper than a cenote and his enthusiasm for birdwatching was tangible. 

We saw 51 different species of birds, including motmots, toucans, parrots, parakeets, and a pygmy owl! I would 100% suggest any birder to request Lugo as their guide. I will be telling any birder I know that is going to the area to book with Contoy and request him.

Carlos and team were very knowledgeable. We identified over 55 species of birds during our half-day outing on La Ruta de los Cenotes. Highly recommended.

Birdwatching Riviera Maya

Our birding trip was definitely a success.  Contoy Excursions did a good job in communicating with us and our guide Carlos was excellent.  Carlos is a great birder and his knowledge of Yucatan species and in particular their songs and calls was exceptional.  He was able to hear and help us spot several new and elusive species.  Carlos was also friendly and enthusiastic about birds and birding.  We had a great time and a nice lunch.  Thank you for the enjoyable day. 

Our guide, Antonio, was excellent.  He was waiting when we disembarked from the ferry and drove us to Chichen Itza promptly so we could enjoy the site.  His explanations, background information and discussions were both educational and fun.  he has a great sense of humor and engages well with people.  He gave us ample time to explore the pyramid and the surrounding buildings.  He was able to answer our many questions and to let us set the pace for the tour. The lunch buffet was excellent.  We enjoyed the Mayan food and the restaurant.   By the time we were back at the ferry we were exhausted but delighted.  We look forward to a return to the area and a tour of other archeological sites.   This trip was well worth the time and cost for our family.

Private Tour Chichen Itza

Contoy Excursions provided us with 2 days of wonderful birding during our recent stay in Mexico. Carlos was a wonderful guide, knew the area well and where to find all the birds! Our transportation was on time and comfortable, meals wholesome and tasty. On our first day we saw 58 species and the second day, 62 species! Those are simply amazing numbers! We will definitely be using Contoy Excursions again and using Carlos as our guide.

This was a great experience, one of the highlights of my trip. Their pre-trip communication was excellent. Nicholas, my driver, was on time and great company. We had a great time both there and back from the birding site. Miguel, my guide was an excellent birder. Great eyes and vocalization knowledge. IWe got two Motmot species, two Trogans, and a Keel-billed Toucans. Over 50 Species, 30 lifers. The morning was capped off by a empanada breakfast at a roadside place. The trip 100 percent met my expectations. 

We were birding with Lugo.  He is a cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable birder.  We had such a productive and fun day that we booked a second trip with him later in our vacation.     Highly recommend Lugo.  


Definitely 5 star service! I contracted Carlos Borregui and Contoy Excursions for a small food and wine group through Colonial Mexico. Even though that area of Mexico is not usual for Carlos, together we designed a perfect itinerary going round-trip from Guadalajara to the Tequila Trail, Lake Chapala, Patzcuaro, San Miguel de Allende, including 4 Pueblos Magicos and $ UNESCO World Heritage sites.
We enjoyed small, local, historical and beautiful hotels, multiple wonderful meals and wine-tastings.
Contoy Excursions used a great vehicle with no problem, handled our luggage, and arranged some special surprises along the way!

Trip

Communicating through Whatsapp made everything easy. Carlos picked us up from our hotel, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw 57 species, would highly recommend. 

I am new (less than 6 months) at birding. My partner has been exploring and viewing birds for over 30 years so finding a tour that would cater to the both of us; especially out of the US we thought would be challenging.

Lugo, our guide, was absolutely perfect. He was punctual, friendly and so knowledgable. He came prepared, snacks, water, his laser pointer, camera and binoculars. We were off early and had a fabulous time finding so many colorful and beautiful birds. 

Lunch was in a cool palapa with homemade authentic cuisine, homemade tortillas and plenty of aqua fresca. 

If you are a newbie or a longtime birder, I think Contoy tours has something for everyone. 

We took this tour in February 2022. Since then we have taken a few other tours outside the US for birding. Lugo, far and away was my favorite. His English is solid. He knows his birds. He loves what he does and it is infectious.

We had an amazing time exploring the lagoon and searching for crocodiles, iguanas, birds and other wildlife! Carlos did everything he could to ensure we saw as many animals as possible and was very informative about all the creatures we saw. Not to mention we got to stop and take in the beautiful sunset! Crocodile Adventure Boat Tour

This was one of my best birding experiences. Carlos was a great guide for the trip, and we recorded 52 species (with fantastic photo opportunities) in just 3 hrs. Carlos knew the exact hotspots and it was so much fun. 20 #lifers for me which I was not expecting at all in this season. I would strongly recommend this trip whether you are new to birding or a seasoned birder. Great photo ops also with birds at eye level. Again, an excellent morning, well spent.

Had an amazing bird watching tour with Carlos. He definitely knows his birds and is fun to hang out with. If you have a hard time deciding between going on a tour with him and just chilling at the pool, do the tour! I did and can recommend it.

The communication was great arranging hotel pick up. The small group of 3 clients plus guide was a perfect size.

Our guide, Lugo is definitely an expert knowing where to find a diverse quantity of birds. We logged 51 different species in three hours in the country side. His expertise allowed us to really see the birds instead of using all our time trying to identify the birds we were seeing. :-)

The lunch sandwiches were tasty and drinks and fruit were available. Gustavo was a good driver.

My only regret is that Lugo used his camera to take group photos that I requestedat the end of our excursion and I have never received copies. :-(
