What are the Tintorera Islets?
Las Tintoreras are small islets that stem from volcanic outbreaks. Due to its distinct formations, it is home to heaps of endemic species like the Galapagos penguins, brown pelicans, white-tipped sharks, sea lions and many more. The famous marine iguanas love to use these islets as nesting and sunbathing spots. This tour gives you the opportunity to experience the mesmerizing underwater world of Isabela and you will encounter lots of endemic species in their natural habitat.
The tour begins at the centrally located Agora office, where a pickup truck will bring you to the pier. All year round cute sea lion cubs crowd the dock waiting for their mothers to return with their long-awaited food. After a few safety instructions from your guide, we will start with the Kayaks towards las Tintoreras. Keep your eyes on the water and you will see penguins chasing fish, marine iguanas going for a swim or maybe some curious sea lions approaching you. Depending on the season, you might get a glimpse of the feeding rituals of the penguin chicks. This tour is all about enjoying the moment.
Be prepared to discover heaps of iguanas, since it is one of the biggest nesting spots on the island. Furthermore, centuries of volcanic activities formed wide crevasses in the underwater world which are now populated by small reef fish, sea stars and colorful crabs. Additionally, many white-tip sharks and sea turtles use the lava channel to relax and sleep. Observing animals from afar is always exciting. However, on this trip, you will get your once-in-a-lifetime experience to snorkel with sea lions, penguins, turtles etc. After some refreshments and snacks, you return back to Puerto Villamil.
