Join Katie Waters and Coco Sednaoui during the last official week of summer for a nourishing yoga retreat in Portugal. Think daily yoga, lots of time in nature, delicious meals, and community on Portugal's wild Atlantic coast.
Cocoon is an enchanting property that has become a second home to Katie. She's spent close to three months there across trainings and retreats over the years, and can attest firsthand to its natural beauty, incredible food, resident farm animals, and everything in between.
Picture days spent practicing yoga in a light-filled shala, dips in the private freshwater lake, a session in the sauna, onsite massages, idyllic cliffside beaches, meals at local seaside restaurants, and curling up in a hammock with a good book.
For those seeking more adventure, there are opportunities for surf lessons, horseback riding, and hiking along the coast. For a more relaxed week, there are plenty of beaches to wander, and honestly, you could be perfectly content just exploring Cocoon's 275 acres of farmland.
Cocoon sits on 275 acres along Portugal's untouched Alentejo coast, just outside the small fishing village of Vila Nova de Milfontes. The grounds are shared with a small crew of resident goats, chickens, cats, and peacocks, who tend to wander into your afternoon nap or evening walk. Eleven rooms all open onto shared outdoor courtyards. It's rustic in the best way: barefoot, unhurried, a little wild.
Meals are local, seasonal, and mostly grown right on the property or sourced from a nearby farm. The price of the retreat includes three meals a day. Cocoon has a team of chefs that prepare fresh, deeply nourishing and delicious meals. We will also enjoy a meal out at a local seaside restaurant. This is the only meal not included in the price of the retreat.
We'll practice in one of two shalas. The indoor space is light-filled, with handmade Portuguese tile floors and windows on every side. The outdoor pine shala, a short walk from the house, has no walls at all, just old-growth trees overhead, best experienced in the early morning as the coastal fog rolls through. Practice will be breath-led and unhurried, the way it always is with Katie and Coco: less about getting somewhere and more about coming back to yourself.
Each morning we'll enjoy a strong, dynamic class and in the evenings we'll take a more restorative approach. Cocoon provides all the mats and props we need, so you can travel light!
All classes will be tailored towards the group, no yoga experience is required! Retreaters can participate in as much or as little yoga as they like.
Cocoon is ten minutes from the coast, with sandy coves and cliffside beaches nearby, including local favorite Praia do Cavaleiro. The Costa Vicentina trail offers some of the best hiking in the country, right outside the door. For the adventurous, surf lessons and horseback riding are available. For those seeking something more restorative, there's a hammock or a beach umbrella with your name on it.
Katie is a 500-hour Registered Yoga and Meditation Teacher trained through The Sacred Fig and a trauma-informed practitioner through the Prison Yoga Project. She has taught all over the world, from a remote island in the Philippines to a retreat center in New Zealand — working with students from their twenties to their nineties.
Her classes are breath-led and precise, rooted in ancient yogic tradition and built around a simple belief: that every person who walks in is more capable than they think. Katie's own practice has fundamentally shifted the way she moves through the world, and opening that door for others is at the heart of everything she teaches. She wants her students to leave having befriended their bodies — curious about what they are made of, and surprised by what they found.
Off the mat, Katie is most alive in nature — hiking, moving through wild places, surrounded by animals. She is drawn to the way the natural world cultivates awe and perspective, and that sense of wonder is very much woven into this retreat.
Coco is a 500-hour Registered Yoga and Meditation Teacher, trauma-informed and alignment-oriented. She trained in Austin, Texas with My Vinyasa Practice, and also
