Day 3 - In the early morning, you will check out of your hotel and Drive on PCH 383 km approx. 5 hours to Monterey near Pebble Beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea.  Along your journey, stop in San Simeon and the Hearst Castle while enjoying spectacular views along Big Sur.  Art and nature merge on this rugged coast, one of California’s most spectacular settings. Welcome to one of the world’s most unforgettable stretches of coastline. This roughly 90-mile-long stretch of redwood- and fog-trimmed waterfront between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle draws you (and writers like Henry Miller and Beat Generation darling Jack Kerouac) in with a magic allure that is almost palpable. This is, quite simply, a place you want to be—bluffs, sea, and sky. The classic drive through Big Sur, along twisting Highway 1, offers plenty of pullovers at places like Bixby Bridge. Stop at parks along the coastline and look up to see endangered California condors, North America’s largest birds, or look down to scan the swells for migrating whales or sea otters floating among dense beds of kelp, California’s signature seaweed. 

When you arrive in Monterey, check in to the Hilton Garden Inn  (or similar) for three nights.

Bayonet, with its narrow playing corridors and steep, penal bunkering, has long been considered the most difficult test of golf on the Monterey Peninsula. The par-72, 7,104-yard course has retained its famous bite after the recent renovation by award-winning architect Gene Bates, but playability and strategic options have been greatly improved. The uphill, dogleg right, 476-yard, par-4 ninth hole exemplifies the course's significant challenge.

Black Horse, a 7,024-yard, par-72 layout, features sweeping vistas of the Pacific and is highlighted by fescue-framed fairways, bunkers with distinctive, serrated edges and slickly-contoured greens. The par-3 15th, created during the renovation, faces the bay and is sure to emerge as one of the great holes on the Peninsula.

Lincoln Park Golf Course is one of the most highly scenic urban golf courses in the world, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and surrounding the historic art museum at the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Constructed in 1902, the course was built in stages by several different architects, including the legendary Tom Bendelow.  Measuring at 5,416 yards, this par 68 golf course pays homage to the days of hickory and persimmon eras. Despite the relative short length on the scorecard, Lincoln Park plays much longer and more difficult due to its hilly terrain, strong ocean winds, and small undulating green complexes. In particular, the course bears its teeth with narrow cypress-lined fairways that place a premium on precision and strategic shot placement.

It may measure less than 50 square miles and have a population that doesn’t even crack a million, but San Francisco justly ranks as one of the greatest cities in the world. Famous for grand-dame Victorians, cable cars, a dynamic waterfront, and a soaring golden bridge, this city truly has it all.
