About this trip

This special Legacy Trip is designed for Black women only, with a focus on having a space to reflect, share, explore, grieve, heal and celebrate together.

This trip was created to protect Black women by having our own space...

Our own space to reflect and grieve, to be vulnerable and to heal, and to celebrate and rejoice, unapologetically,

Our own space to face the tragedies and triumphs of our ancestors,

Our own space to strategize ways in which we can contribute to tearing down systematic racism,

Our own space to unpack our own internalized oppression,

And our own space to share our stories about how we got (and are getting) free and how we will help others get free.

We invite you to engage in this transformational experience as we delve into these courageous conversations with trip facilitator, Kina Reed.

"My name is Joquina Reed. But you all most definitely can call me Kina. By far one of the most important hats I wear in life is being a fabulous aunt to 8 nieces and nephews! In addition to being Nanny Kina, I am also a DEI consultant and facilitator, researcher, learning strategist, and community advocate. I also hold both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communications.  Every day I wake up committed to moving us all closer to the goal line of shared humanity. I often find my words feel limited by not speaking my fore-parents tongue, but I still speak. I enjoy sticking my hand in soil to remind myself the universe is both bigger than I am and still enlarged by my acts. I’m constantly looking for opportunities to help others enlarge themselves and step out of the boxes they no longer fit. As a life-long learner and educator, I affirm the words of my great ancestor, Anna Julia Cooper, “The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class - it is the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity.” Follow my projects the AntiBlackness Reader and Divesting from Whiteness to learn more!"

The cost for each participant is only $300 as we hope to cover the remaining balance of $600 through our fundraiser for the 10 Black women who will attend.

*Please note that deposits for all Legacy Trips are non-refundable.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits for all Legacy Trips are non-refundable. The balance of the total cost of the trip, not including the deposit, is refundable in the event the participant requests in writing to cancel within 30 days from the start of the trip they registered for. If the need to cancel arises, the participant has the option to put whatever monies they have already paid towards an upcoming Legacy Trip during the same calendar year.

Covid Preparedness Plan

We will continue to follow the Covid situation and update our protocols accordingly.
We ask that trip participants provide a negative Covid test within 1-3 days of the first day of the Legacy Trip. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided throughout the weekend and we will adhere to all policies of the hotel, memorial and museum.

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the Legacy Museum have new COVID-19 safety precautions in place.

We have taken steps to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 by requiring face masks and requiring temperature checks for all visitors before entry into buildings. We are also reducing total occupancy in the Legacy Museum to 25% of capacity to limit the risk of exposure. All visitors will be provided with hand sanitizer, latex-free gloves, and sanitizing wipes to go through the museum with less risk. We are replacing some exhibits with "no-touch" options for access. We have also installed UV lights to kill bacteria and contaminants in the space on a constant basis. If you have additional questions or concerns, please email us at ticketing@eji.org.

Since 2018, Black woman owned and led Legacy Trips provides immersive racial and social justice oriented, spiritually based, experiences visiting historical landmarks (such as Montgomery & Selma, AL) for the purpose of doing deep, inner work in a supportive environment alongside a loving community led by BIPOC teachers where everyone seeks to educate themselves while integrating mindful action against oppressive systems and strategizing ways to affect personal and collective change with the goal of liberation for all.

This was a masterfully planned and facilitated trip. The majority of the weekend is self-guided, which is necessary, but Tina scaffolds you before each experience. She gave us general topics to discuss during informal meals, and guiding principals to keep in mind before moving through the museum and memorial, in addition to leading reflections afterwards. For me, her guidance deepened my time and made each portion of the weekend more impactful. Also, I really appreciate the thoughtfully curated pre and post work. I felt much more prepared for the trip because of it and am so grateful that there are resources to help integrate the work and continue connecting with others afterwards. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

What a transformational experience. Thank you Tina for guiding us through such a thoughtfully planned and executed Legacy Trip. The museum and memorial were eye opening and walking over the bridge in Selma crystalized for me how I can make personal changes to be a better ancestor. And I now have bigger network of women who will hold me accountable to making these changes. Words don't do it justice - THANK YOU!!

Wow, what an incredibly well organized trip! The accommodations were great, the meals were delicious, the workshops were AMAZING, and the tours of the Legacy Museum, the Memorial for Peace & Justice, and the walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, were all phenomenal experiences and I am forever changed!

This is my second Legacy Trip so I came to this already knowing the quality of experience that Legacy Trips provide. When I tell you that this trip blew me out of the water I am not exaggerating. I had been wanting to do plant medicine for a few years but was really concerned about the safety of the space and the care that would be provided while in the medicine. La Vida Divine is an outstanding organization with thoughtful and caring facilitators. I trusted Legacy Trips before I met La Vida Divine and feel that the relationship between Legacy Trips and La Vida Divine is a most perfect union. I highly recommend this trip if you are looking to do a plant medicine journey and are serious about being intentional and thoughtful about your experience. Love Tina, Goddess Jhoselyn and Gaddy, forever my favorites!

Tabitha, you are truly Legacy family now! It was so beautiful being on this plant medicine trip with you. I believe our paths crossed so that we could experience this kind of loving community together. Thank you for trusting me and for trusting us to walk alongside you through your journey of healing, liberation and love.
