  • You want to experience self care; by focusing on yourself while we take care of the rest!

Life in Balance

Everything in life is about the yin and yang. Positive and negative, ease and effort, love and loss, personal and professional, health and indulgence – we are constantly looking for that sweet spot where we can find our centre, our balance, even in the midst of whatever life might throw our way. But how do we embrace our experiences to find that balance?

The practice of yoga brings a greater sense of balance to your life by allowing you the space and awareness to just be you and to feel present, during the good, the bad, and the ugly moments of life.

Allowing oneself through the practice of yoga to be fully connected to what we feel and why we feel it brings us to a place where we can live more mindfully. And with that mindfulness, we are able to come that much closer to the sweet spot: that balanced place in the middle of it all where we feel peace and tranquility.

The Setting

Take a moment for yourself in the beautiful nature of the French countryside.

Nestled in the southwest corner of France, nearby the Spanish border, the venue (Domaine de Mournac) benefits from glorious sunshine most of the time, but still with green and lush vegetation. Walk anywhere round the villa and you’ll be constantly taken aback by the beautiful view of the Midi-Pyrenees Mountains.

Watch the mist rolling in the valley below, and see the sun travel across the sky by reaping the benefits of the South facing property.

Discover your own slice of peace and tranquility, be that in the woodlands, amidst the vines, or on top of the nearby Mont Sec.

Here, you’ll savour every single moment outside as much as you enjoy the comfort of the retreat house.

The Accommodations

Home-like comfort

Welcoming guest accommodation is provided in a 12th century stone coach house which has been recently renovated and upgraded to provide a relaxed farmhouse feel with the modern comforts you need.

A mixture of private and shared accommodations is available to suit your travel preferences and budget. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

For those looking for additional privacy, a self-contained studio apartment adjacent to the main house is also available for booking.

Communal gathering

Gather in a communal dining room for fresh, healthy meals and retreat to the cozy living room to relax with other guests or curl up with a good book. On cooler days, sit back and enjoy the warmth of a roaring fire in the stone fireplace.

Professionally-appointed yoga studio

You will find all the creative inspiration you need whilst here. Our morning and afternoon yoga practices take place in a large, bright studio with views of the Pyrenees and nearby mountains.

After practice, bask in the sun from the large terrace that opens to the studio.

The studio is perfectly equipped with yoga mats, bricks, blocks, straps, eye bags & blankets. You are welcome to bring your own mat and props if you prefer, but it is not required.

The Food

Nutrition is just as important as exercise when it comes to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. So whilst you are focusing on your yoga practice and enjoying all of the activities, our retreat chef will be working just as hard to provide you with healthy but exceptionally tasty food.

Using locally sourced and seasonal produce, including eggs from the property’s chickens and produce from the garden where possible.

The food is vegetarian and often vegan. All other dietary requirements can be catered for, just let us know when you book.

Of course, you can’t travel all the way to France without sampling some of the local wines, so we will provide you with local wine at dinner, and the opportunity to visit a local winery.

Meet Your Hosts: Stephanie & Nicole

“Yoga has been a part of our lives for many years. Our practice has inspired us to find peace and tranquillity with the choices we make in life and inspires us to live each moment more mindfully. We are Canadians who bonded in friendship over a shared passion for travel, living abroad and practicing yoga. Realizing that corporate life was for neither one of us in our late-20’s, Nicole now teaches yoga in Hamilton, Ontario, while Stephanie teaches yoga and works for an international travel company in Beaune, France. We are committed to bringing our students to a place of balance and serenity through a yoga practice full of heart and inspiration. This is our second Life in Balance Retreat and we are so excited to build on the success of the first one!"

About Stephanie

Stephanie discovered her passion for yoga while living in downtown Toronto, Canada, looking for a physical activity that corresponded to her first love- classical ballet. Though not entirely similar, yoga did bring with its practice the strength, concentration and grace that she was looking for to an activity, which helped round out the healthy lifestyle she was looking to achieve.

Her passion for practicing with heart and grace has since coupled with her passion for travel and all things francophile. She has been living and working in the luxury tourism market for the past 6 years, spending the majority of the year in Beaune, France- that's right, in the epicenter of the wine industry.

Her focus over the past two years has been Ashtanga however has since recently moved towards a Hatha practice, enjoying the variety in asanas, movement, and rhythm. She received her yoga teacher training in the south of Portugal and has continued a daily practice mixing vinyasa flow and Ashtanga ever since.

Favourite asana: Hands down has to be Astavakrasana for its ability to provide the perfect balance between strength and stability.

About Nicole

Nicole credits the tools and practices of yoga for bringing immense clarity and calm to her life and for leading her on a path to discovering her life’s purpose. Nicole first experienced the truly transformative potential of yoga while on a retreat in Costa Rica. At the time, the retreat provided an escape from the stresses of life.

Within weeks of returning, Nicole had committed to a daily practice and was enrolled in her first hatha-vinyasa teacher training program one year later. Her journey led her to teach at well-established studios in Toronto, at luxury resorts in Jamaica and to take an additional intensive yoga training in Bali, Indonesia, which included meditation, yoga nidra and restorative practices.

Nicole is passionate about helping people discover their potential, their power and their peace through yoga and offers complementary coaching services to guide people towards living in alignment with their core values and experiencing greater life balance.

Favourite asana: Tadasana (Mountain Pose) for creating a beautiful balance between feeling grounded and uplifted.

You can find Nicole at @namastebynicole or nicolecatenazzi.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many participants will be there?

I’m travelling with a friend. Can we share a room?

Yes you can! Make sure you each choose the same accommodation type when booking to ensure you are placed in the same room.

Do you offer a payment plan?

Yes we do! Once you pay your deposit, please email lifeinbalanceyogaretreats@gmail.com if you would like to pay for your spot in instalments. We will work with you to make sure you can register in a way that meets your financial needs.

Are flights included?

No, the cost of your flight is not included.

How do I get to/from the airport and the venue?

For bookings made before September 1, 2019, We offer a complimentary group transfer to/from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport on arrival day (November 9) and departure day (November 16).  To join the group transfer, your flight must arrive at Toulouse no later than 2:30PM on November 9 and depart from Toulouse no earlier than 11AM on November 16.

Otherwise, we recommend renting a car to get to the venue, as it is quite rural. Please note that the earliest arrival time at the venue on November 9th is 4:00pm. The latest departure time on November 16th is 7:30am.

Are kids permitted?

Do I need to bring my yoga mat?

The studio is perfectly equipped with yoga mats, bricks, blocks, straps, eye bags & blankets. You are welcome to bring your own mat and props if you prefer, but it is not required.

I have certain dietary requirements, can these be accommodated?

Yes they can! To ensure enough time for proper menu planning, please let us know upon booking whether you have any dietary requirements. Our retreat chef is incredibly talented and accommodating to all dietary and allergy requirements.

Do I have to do all the activities? What if I want to go off on my own?

All of the activities listed are included in your stay but they are also completely optional. You can participate in what we offer as much or as little as you wish.

You are free to travel off the retreat site at any time. Because the location is rural, we recommend you rent a car at the airport if you plan on exploring the region on your own. If you need help with arranging a private driver just let us know and we can coordinate that for you.

The accommodation option I want is sold out. Do you have a waitlist?

Yes we do! Please email lifeinbalanceyogaretreats@gmail.com to be added to the waitlist for your preferred accommodation option. We will let you know if a spot opens up AND we will honour any discount codes that were available at the time of your email to us.

Are the activities in English?

All the retreat activities (yoga classes, hiking, cooking class, winery tour etc. ) will be led in English. Both of your teachers speak fluent French and can assist with any translation or comprehension in any other circumstances.

What’s the weather like in this area of  France in November?

This region of France enjoys mostly sunny weather in November, with mild temperatures perfect for walking around and even eating outside in great comfort with a light sweater or jacket during the day. In November 2018, we comfortably hiked up Mont Sec in shorts and t-shirts!

The evenings and early mornings will see lower temperatures but the venue has gas fired underfloor central heating throughout the house, with temperature controls on each level, plus additional wall heaters in the yoga studio. There is also a large open fire in the main living room for colder days!

For outdoor activities, we recommend being prepared for rain or shine, so pack clothing items you know you'll be comfortable in for any and all activities.

Is the venue safe?

The venue is based in an exceptionally secure location, with security gates on the edge of the property, and no passing traffic. Each room can be locked with a key (one key per room). Whilst we cannot say that the risk of theft is non-existent, it is exceptionally unlikely.

I'm having issues making a payment. Why is that?

Depending on your bank's country of residence, your credit card provider may initially block the transaction because you are making a purchase in a foreign currency (Euros). WeTravel uses a safe and secure payment gateway, so you can confidently authorize your bank to proceed with the transaction.

Anything else?

As with any overseas trip, we recommend that all participants make sure they cover themselves with the necessary travel and health insurance for the duration of their trip.

Reviews

I honestly don’t know where to begin about this amazing retreat with Nicole and Stephanie. Let me start by thanking these 2 beautiful, kind, generous, strong, caring and encouraging women! Thank you Nicole and Stephanie for EVERYTHING! You went above and beyond to take care of me and keep me included in the whole retreat after my injury! You made me feel genuinely cared for and still valued as a member of our group! And to all the amazing women who participated in the retreat with me, thank you all for your kindness, your openness, your honesty, your kind and encouraging words, your inclusiveness and your genuine care for me! I learned and gained so much from all of you and feel like I gained a few new friends!! We really had a very special group of women on our retreat! This retreat was a small miracle for me in so many ways. I learned a lot about myself including that I am stronger than I ever give myself credit for, and that I can still grow as a person, a woman, a mother and a friend. This retreat and it’s workshops helped me gain a whole new insight as to what it means to me to truly live a life that I want! To still learn and grow, to forgive myself, to cry things out (which we did a lot, lol), and to trust in others, and in myself and my thoughts and feelings and ideas instead of dismissing and doubting myself!!! I sincerely hope to return to the retreat next year and continue to grow and evolve and learn and accept. Thank you again Nicole and Stephanie! Those 2 words seem so small for HOW MUCH I am truly greatful to you both, but they’re all I have. Thank you for the blessing of getting to know you both, for the gift of you kindness, your care, your wisdom and your friendship!!! I truly cherish you, the women I met and spent the week getting to know, and the entire retreat! And I can’t end without mentioning the food by our ridiculously talented chef, and our lovely wonderful hosts! We ate like royalty with every mouthwatering, delicious, healthy, creative dish!! And our hosts were wonderful and accommodated is in every way possible! Especially after my accident! Thank you for that! I HIGHLY recommend this retreat to everyone! It is an experience and a gift that you will never forget!!!
This experience was inspirational and relaxing at the same time. A highly recommended yoga retreat/vacation with great accommodation, delicious food, wonderful people and breathtaking scenery. Special thanks to Nicole and Stephanie for making this retreat so personally rewarding and memorable. You are a dynamic duo who created an unforgettable experience. We fully achieved "life in balance" and left with new friends, beautiful memories and renewed "joie de vivre". Thank you both.
This yoga retreat exceeded my expectations: wonderful balance of events and downtime, beautiful and peaceful surroundings, delicious and healthy food. It was nothing short of fantastic.
Amazing personalized retreat experience that exceeded my expectations in every category - program (yoga, workshops, activities, free time), accommodations, food, participants, value, customer care.
