Join our local guide for coffee, before departing at 6:00 am on a quest to find Quetzals. Our guide, will lead the tour to try and spot one/some Quetzal (s) for you.  With its metallic green plumage, crimson breast and bell and its incredible streamer-like feathers, watching a male Quetzal in its magical fly, is a unique, breathtaking experience.  Return to the Lodge at 8:00 am for breakfast.

After breakfast you will begin your day adventure of sea kayaking & snorkeling in Marino Ballena National Park.

Marino Ballena National Park covers an extension of 171 land hectares and 5,375 sea hectares and is named after the humpback whales that migrate from mid-July and October, and again in December through March from feeding and mating grounds in the north and south hemispheres to the warm tropical waters of Costa Rica.

The most prominent land formation found within the park is the Punta Uvita Whale Tail (Punta Uvita Tombolo), a sand bar that extends 1 kilometer into the Pacific Ocean.  During low tide visitors can enjoy a walk out to the Punta Uvita Tombolo where rock reef stretches out forming the shape of a whale tail.

The first part of the adventure is a 45 minutes kayak trip that begins at low tide as the waves go to one side of the Whale’s Tail, which is one of the best spots for snorkeling in Costa Rica.

As paddling to one of the best Costa Rican reefs you will enjoy a magnificent view of the mountains and the coast of Costa Ballena and Uvita. Enjoy 45 minutes snorkeling where you have the opportunity to observe and swim alongside sea turtles, dolphins, stingrays, manta rays, moray eels, barracudas, tuna, snapper, parrot fish, puffers and more. This forever-changing panorama is a powerful experience for those who venture below the surface to investigate the variety of marine life found near the coral reefs. 

Continue into a small mangrove forest where it is possible to observe animals in their natural habitat. As you paddle in the canals of its tranquil waters you will learn about the importance of this ecosystem and about the species that live there.

After an early breakfast l enjoy a private transfer to La Fortuna (approx. 4 hours). Arenal’s perfectly symmetrical shape makes it a sightseer’s dream, while the  abundance of outdoor activities close to the volcano makes it an easy place to enjoy several full and exciting days.  You’ll visit one of the most impressive volcanoes in Costa Rica, a cloud forest, and a lake world-famous for windsurfing while observing  an incredibly diverse population of wildlife. 

During the afternoon you can soak at the hot springs in the hotel or at one of the nearby resorts.

Today you will soar through the Arenal sky, in between treetops and across expansive canyons as you ride along the Sky Trek Zipline.  Juanilama is a community located about an 1 hour from La Fortuna which has been organized to offer authentic experiences to travelers so  that they learn the local culture and experience the warmth of the inhabitants.

To start you can choose from 1 from the following two activities:

La Leona Waterfall Hike
The hike consists of 2 kilometers of intermediate paths, allowing the visitor to reach the foot of the La Leona Waterfall. You will have the chance to swim in crystal clear waters. During the whole walk, a local guide offers information about the existing flora and fauna.

Handcraft & Artisan Soap
An interesting and practical way to convert common waste such as paper, cans and plastic bottles into handcrafts or usable utensils with Doña Elena who will be your teacher.
You will also learn to make handmade soap, use your creativity to make figures and choose the smell you prefer according to your preferences.

Then continue to the house of one of the locals to try your culinary skills and learn about typical Costa Rican cuisine.  You will enjoy  a local, homemade lunch with the family.
