pring Studio Programme – London, May 2026

Plaster Carving • Woodcarving • Wood Marquetry

This unique sequence of three studio-based courses offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in traditional craft practices rooted in Islamic design and geometry. Scheduled back-to-back over two weeks, these workshops are ideal for both international and UK-based students seeking to deepen their skills and broaden their material understanding in a focused and supportive studio environment.

Whether taken individually or as a full programme, these courses are designed to complement one another — combining pattern, structure, and surface through the exploration of plaster, wood, and veneer.
Students who complete all three courses will gain an enriched, cross-disciplinary perspective on form, material, and traditional design, while building practical hand skills under expert guidance.

Plaster Carving Workshop

9–10 May 2026 (Weekend)
Learn the process of creating and carving traditional gypsum plaster relief panels, from scratch to finished pattern. You’ll prepare and cast your own plaster slab, transfer a geometric design, and carve it using traditional tools and methods. This course explores key techniques found in Islamic architectural decoration, with a focus on rhythm, surface, and depth.

  • No previous experience required

  • All tools and materials provided

  • Take home your completed carved panel

Woodcarving Intensive

11–15 May 2026 (Monday to Friday)
This five-day course offers an in-depth introduction to traditional relief woodcarving techniques, including tool use, sharpening, and carving decorative motifs in hardwood. Working with hand tools and geometric or biomorphic patterns, you’ll develop precision and confidence through extended studio practice.

  • Suitable for beginners and those with some experience

  • Covers sharpening and material preparation

  • Ideal foundation for independent carving projects

Wood Marquetry Workshop

16–17 May 2026 (Weekend)
Explore the delicate and expressive art of wood veneer marquetry, a craft that combines fine pattern-making with a painterly sensitivity to grain and tone. Over two days, you’ll compose a design from multiple species of natural veneer, and complete a finished panel using traditional cutting and gluing techniques.

  • Learn knife-cutting, taping, gluing and finishing

  • Introduction to tools and materials

  • Emphasis on pattern, precision and craftsmanship

All courses take place at our London studio, with full access to tools, materials, and tuition.
Local accommodation recommendations are available on request.
