Welcome to the "Magic Town" of Loreto , a place so special that the Mexican government gave it this distinctive title. It is here that you will find old buildings dotted with vibrant plant life, exotic flowers growing between the cracks in the concrete near the taco stands, and the fascinating Mission of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, the oldest mission in the region, dating back to 1697. It is also a destination where you will find a great diversity of marine life, the impressive Islands of Loreto and extraordinary experiences both on land and at sea. Ideal for those looking to relax and adventure, Loreto Baja California will steal your heart and leave you speechless.
Loreto is among those hidden gems of Mexico that you don’t hear about much. But it’s also one of the most gorgeous towns on Baja California Sur’s eastern coast.
The unique thing about Loreto isn’t only that it’s one of the most charming places in Mexico, but also that it is a paradise for nature lovers, with so many things to do and explore!
Since Loreto is praised for its well-preserved natural environment, it’s one of the rare places where you will experience some of the best Mexican wonders, without all the fuss caused by overdevelopment.
Loreto offers some of the best island diving to be found in the Sea of Cortez. Loreto International Airport is located there. The islands of Coronado, Carmen, Catalán, Montserrat and Danzante lie just off the coast of Loreto and offer amazing scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities. Around these islands, divers can find rock reefs, seamounts, underwater caves, walls, reefs and wrecks. Some popular dive sites are Punta Coyote, Los Candelleros and Las Galeras.
The islands are part of the Loreto National Marine Park, a good area for diving and home to over 800 species of marine life. Divers can swim among seals, dolphins and colorful tropical fish.
Diving in Loreto is available year-round. Average water temperature is around 68-72F/20-22C and visibility reaches up to 200ft/60 m at some dive sites. February through April is a good time to see humpback and sometimes even blue whales in this area.
