About this trip

Luminous Tranquility: Retreat to Asheville

Welcome to the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina, where you’ll enjoy a four night yoga retreat with Lumos Instructors Eunmi Chang and Sam Leonetti. Part of the Appalachian range, the Blue Ridge Mountains are among the oldest in the world, and are known for their distinctive “blue” color, emanating from it’s mountain forests. Our days include hikes in the mountains, a visit to Biltmore, dinners at James Beard award nominated restaurants, daily vinyasa and restorative yoga classes, and a soundbath led by Eunmi.

Come away with us and experience the magic!

Accommodations

Bent Creek Lodge is a B&B located in Arden, NC - just a short drive into downtown Asheville, and is conveniently located a few miles from the regional airport - the ideal location for hosting our retreat, away from the bustle of the downtown area.

The Lodge features 10 guest rooms on 3 different levels. All rooms have private baths and individual heating and air conditioning.

About 100 yards up the road from the Lodge is the Luhn House, an adjacent house with its own small waterfall and yard. The house has three bedrooms and two and a half baths, as well as a kitchen, living room with stone fireplace, and deck with hot tub.

Bent Creek Inn and The Luhn House have been fully reserved by Lumos for this retreat!

FAQ's

Deposits and Payments: Deposits are non-refundable. Cancellations before July 15, 2024 will be issued a refund for payments made, minus the deposit. Cancellations after July 15, 2023 will be given a credit in the amount paid for use towards a future retreat, and deposit may carry over to a future retreat. Payment Processing for retreat booking is not included in the retreat pricing and is 3.9% for most cards, 4.9% for Amex, but no fee for Bank ACH.

Arrival and departure: Flights to/from Asheville, NC are not included in retreat pricing. There are non-stop flights from Philadelphia to Asheville operated through American Airlines, as well as one-stop flights, many through Charlotte, NC. Typically there are two non-stop flights each day - coming in from PHL there is an early morning and late afternoon flight, and departing AVL there is a mid-morning and evening flight. We recommend flying in early on Wednesday, and/or departing in the evening on Sunday to have more time in Asheville - we will be able to store your bags in a secure location. The Asheville Regional Airport is just six miles from Bent Creek Inn, cabs can be requested from Asheville Airport, as well as Ubers. We recommend downloading an app called AVL Ride or using Uber.

Meals & Dietary Needs: For all dietary restrictions (gluten, vegetarian, other allergies), please note your restrictions with your signup.

Private Classes: To schedule a private session with an instructor, please email info@lumosfitness.com. Private or semi-private classes are not included in the cost of the trip, but can be arranged.

Are all activities required?: Everything on the retreat - including classes - is completely optional. This retreat is about taking care of yourself, and doing what feels best for you.

What about weather? Our trip is planned for mid-September, which is peak season for Asheville and the surrounding areas (which is reflected in the rates for stays and activities). September and October are the busiest months of the year in Asheville due to the fall foliage and leaves changing colors along the Blue Ridge Highway. The weather is typically in the 70’s and there are not many rainy days. In our experience, it may rain or get cloudy for a short period of each day, but in general we expect temperate weather, perfect for all of the outdoor activities!

What do I need to bring?: Fitness/workout clothes, sneakers/hiking shoes, swimsuit, sunscreen, any coverings, casual attire including layers, bug spray. Yoga Mats will be provided.

Any tips for how to plan the free time/meals? Yes! We have loads of recommendations and tips for things to do, depending on what you’re interested in doing/seeing. We’ve also tried a lot of restaurants and have some recommendations for any cuisine. After booking your deposit, feel free to reach out to us at info@lumosfitness.com for suggestions!

A note on pricing: September and October are peak season in Asheville - early fall is some of the nicest weather, and the trees may start to change for fall. As such,  everything in Asheville is more expensive to do/see/visit this time of year, especially with a group. We take great care and put a lot of time and energy in finding distinctive locations to stay at, planning and booking activities, and researching restaurants to include in the retreat.

I had an amazing time on the Costa Rica retreat, it was a warm and welcoming group. Jess thought of absolutely everything to ensure that everyone was having the best time while staying safe. The property was beautiful, the food was amazing, workout classes were customized by group interests, and there was flexibility in the itinerary to make it your own. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I am glad that I was able to go through Lumos!

This retreat was very healing for me. I had a wonderful time meeting new people, strengthening existing friendships, and being present in a truly beautiful space. I do wish there had been more opportunities for yoga. There were a few times when scheduling with other activities conflicted, either directly or because they went longer than expected. I realize with the add on activities, that was a possibility, but sometimes an afternoon class was cancelled because “everyone is probably too tired” after the morning activity (like the waterfall hike). I think in those situations, it would have been nice to have a cooldown/ rest and stretch session. If being on the deck after dark was an issue, I bet in the future the upper deck of the Royal sabitha could have been used, either inside or out. Just would have needed to move the furniture. I really enjoyed the classes I did take. I gravitated more towards the yoga, but it was nice to have a choice. The mixed 30/30 class was a good change of pace mid week. I would have liked to have a consistent early morning yoga (7:30/8?), and an evening class, with activities like hikes/etc happening between (Maybe a mid/late morning higher energy class for those who don’t do the excursions), just so that there was something we knew would happen at the same time each day. Wifi didn’t reach my room, so I often didn’t know when scheduling changes were happening until some time after it was settled. Food was great- I loved the chefs, and the food they made was phenomenal. It might be just me, but I liked their cooking more than the times we went out. Johnny was fantastic- I can’t overstate how nice he was, how flexible, and how impressively adept at driving us hither and thither! I did the snorkeling, surfing, and horse back riding excursions. I enjoyed all of them, but if I went again, id probably just do the surfing lesson. I loved the snorkeling, but the long boat ride to get there and back was not for me. Also while I enjoyed the riding, I think the large group made it less like a trail ride and more like a March there and back again. For the activities that had swimming opportunities (waterfall hike and horseback riding), I hadn’t realized that there would be a chance to swim, so I didn’t wear a swim suit. It would have been nice to have that stated on the schedule, as that was my guide all week. All in all, it was an amazing trip and I would definitely advise others to go if you do it again!

Had an amazing time at the Lumos Retreat in Costa Rica! 5 stars all around! Alyssa and Taft were fantastic instructors. Alyssa's Vinyasa classes were challenging yet accessible and her knowledge of breathwork really helped me connect my mind and body. Taft's Barre class was so much fun - who knew a workout could be so enjoyable? The location at Casa Kia Ora was perfect. The private cabinas were comfortable and the view from the yoga deck was breathtaking. We loved having access to the pool to cool off after a sweaty workout class. The activities were all well-organized and unforgettable. The waterfall hike was stunning and exploring the mangroves by kayak was a unique way to see the local ecosystem. We saw 2 Macaws!!! The food was another highlight - fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared by The Private Chef Dining Experience CR. We especially loved the welcome dinner and the chef-prepared meals on the activity days.

What an amazing yoga retreat and vacation planned by Lumos! The trip was extremely well organized. The place we stayed, Casa Kia Ora, was beautiful, comfortable, and included every amenity you could imagine. The staff was really friendly and accommodating, and the setting was so peaceful. The spaces for yoga and barre were perfect, nestled outside in the jungle around nature. They offered the perfect level of intimacy and connection you would look for on this kind of trip. The food was INCREDIBLE. The private chefs that Lumos hired were crazy talented. I don’t think I’ve eaten that well in a week ever in my life. The selection and diversity of activities organized (both included and optional) provided something for everyone, and gave the group such a good representation of the amazing things Costa Rica has to offer. My favorites were surfing and the waterfall hike. Big takeaway was that so much was planned and thought through by Lumos for the people attending that we could all just kick back, relax, and enjoy each day and each other’s company. Lumos did an amazing job planning this retreat, and I would definitely do another retreat with them in the future.
