La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubandé, 20 minutes from Liberia in the province of Guanacaste. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic.

For this experience is not necessary having swimming skills, we use a certified safety equipment for security necessary to enjoy this expedition in a safe and funny way!

Get suited and ready to get wet!

This is a basic to intermediate difficulty hike, so we’ll take the trail adapted to your capacity and condition.

We will start walking 35 minutes through natural trails by the river side in the forest until reaching the canyon enter where the beautiful turquoise waterfall LA LEONA is located. We will stay there for a few minutes and swim in its crystal clear and therapeutic sulfur turquoise waters that are born in Rincón de la Vieja volcanic complex being able to take pics of these unique moments. On the way back we’ll stop by the blue river pool called "El resbalón" to enjoy into its refreshing waters. As we go back, we’ll visit a second waterfall located inside at a small rocky cave for which an adventurous spirit is essential in this magic experience!

At the end we’ll eat fresh tropical fruits

Wellness is not simply about counting calories and going for daily jogs.  True wellness is found in everything that you do... or that you don't do.  True wellness is about being able to live optimally without really having to put enormous effort into your actions.  If your daily routine is a chore, it will not last... and if it did, well... you'd probably feel miserable; certainly not healthy.  

While at Rio Perdido, guests are encouraged to try a variety of local fare, prepared with fresh, local ingredients.  Guests are encouraged to walk... to get a bit lost and absorb all that the forest affords us, from the amazing sights and sounds to the clean air and pristine mineral water.  Visitors should consider departing from their respective comfort zones, in favor of trying something new and perhaps even a tad adventurous, whether that calls for an epic hike through the dwarf forest reserve or a strenuous bike ride through our challenging "red loop".  

Perhaps a morning exploring dozens of completely natural, geothermically heated river pools is the thing for you.  Whatever the case, visitors find that days here seem to flow.  You refuel your physical and spiritual energies, without even noticing it.  This is a type of therapy that anyone can appreciate.  This is the essence of Rio Perdido. 

One of our most popular activities, White Water Tubing at Rio Perdido is a guest favorite. This adventure meanders through over a mile of stunning canyon landscape, narrow rock walls and rolling whitewater. See if you can find the hot waterspouts along the way! Or spot the elusive sphiggurus, trogons, tiger herons, howler and white-faced capuchin monkeys, bats, and you will be in the habitat of large cats … spot them if you’re lucky.

While most of the course is a mellow float through the canyon, this is no lazy river. There are a few hundred yards of slides and rapids to make for an exciting experience that both adventurous first-timers and families with older children can enjoy.

While Costa Rica has dozens of tours with hundreds of ziplines, Río Perdido has truly innovated the zipline experience with the Canyon Adventure. Under the guidance of renowned Adventure Designers, Alejo Soto and Jose Manuel Pizarro (3-time Guinness Book of World Record fellow), Rio Perdido has created a zipline sequence that will please and surprise.

The Rio Blanco canyon is the main stage for this cable-based adventure. It is the first sequence in the Americas to substitute steel cables with carbon fiber cables —so that no sound disturbs this incredible setting. The Canyon Adventure includes:

●    15 Platforms: 6 of them are rock-based, 9 are suspended on the canyon walls
●    A Pendulum Cable
●    A 50 ft. “Tarzan Swing”
●    A 90 ft. Challenge Bridge
●    4 Via Ferratas (climbing routes) with lengths varying from 15 ft. to over 30 ft.
●    5 Ziplines with lengths varying from 260 ft. to over 800 ft.
