At 20574' (6271m), Nevado de Salkantay is the tallest and most majestic mountain in the Cordillera Vilcabamba range and the backdrop for a new variation on the trek to Machu Picchu. This journey travels off the beaten track, away from the crowds found on the Inca Trail. It offers a true view of the Peruvian mountains with spectacular vistas and provides the feeling of adventure and remoteness the Inca Trail has lost. The trek starts in Cusco as per the standard trip itinerary and ends with a full day at Machu Picchu. It's a great way to see the best of both worlds.

Tour of the Sacred Valley
This day will help us all acclimatize to the high altitude that we will be trekking at. We will visit an animal sanctuary to see Condors and tour the Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac. Lunch is included

Venture into the Andes
On day 4 we will begin our trek into the Andes, departing the hotel early in the morning. Along the way we will stop for breakfast. After breakfast it is a short van ride to the start of our journey. We will follow a road and path up a valley to our camp area SAYLLAPATA (11,500Ft.). Upon arriving to the campsite, the tents will be set up by our porters and dinner will be being prepared by the cook.

Reaching New Heights
On day 5 we will embark on the most difficult day of the trek, hiking up to the Salkantay Pass (15,100Ft). But first woken up by our team with warm coca tea and breakfast. On the way up to the pass we will see the extraordinary heights of the Andes. If the clouds permit we will have extraordinary views of the sacred mountains of UMANTAY and SALKANTAY. On the descent into the valley we will stop for lunch to rest. As we continue the descent, the scenery change from rugged snow covered peaks to lush jungles. Like day 4 camp will be prepared and dinner on the way.

Lush Jungles
On day 6 we will continue our way down into the lush jungle. Following the river we will reach the campsite of La Playa. Play soccer with local school children, enjoy hot springs, and zip lining!

A different view of Machu Piccu
On the 7th day, we will make our way up in the morning to the summit of LLACTAPATA. Along the hike we will pass orchards and coffee plantations. On the summit we will have a view point of Machu Piccu that likes on top of a mountain across the valley. From there we will descend into the valley and catch a train to Aguas Calientes.

Machu Picchu at Last!
After an early-morning breakfast, we will take the bus to MACHUPICCHU where you will have a thorough tour with your guide. You will then have the opportunity to climb HUAYNAPICCHU before heading down to AGUAS CALIENTES to board the train back to Cusco.
