Hello Potential Peruvian Adventurers! I realize Peru is a long way from Sioux Lookout or Yellowknife or the States, but this is an amazing opportunity to see some mystical geography rarely seen by human eyes.
Ben and I have been talking for a few years about an epic journey ever since we completed The World's Best Ever Roadtrip in Australia, and it is time to make it happen and paddle the Grand Canyon of the Amazon! We have decided to set the date and hope that we can get some of this amazing crew onboard! Goal numbers would be somewhere 4-14 people, so it is quite flexible. I think this would be an awesome way to see some of you guys, catch up, and just live the dream of going on an adventure with you.
Ben has been working for the last 5 years on environmental projects in Peru and getting to know the Río Maranon, and he now gets to share the river through his outfit Maranon Experience -- and loves to take people down the river. Their goal is to increase awareness of the area and build a responsible ecotourism economy to prevent future destruction eg: Damming.
Below are all the details for a standard trip. We can also personalize the trip in any way we wish as well (send us an email if you have ideas!). The cost covers all the logistics, food, gear, river guides, hotels before and after trip, etc.
If we manage to gather more than 8 people for the trip, the company will discount price by $150 per person and donate this cash to creation of the Marañón Libre Conservation Area, or they can refund it back to you if you'd prefer the discount in pocket!
Feel free to email Ben or I with questions!! Excited!
Aaron

The Marañón River is one of the most unique river journeys on the planet. Isolated riverside villages, cascading waterfalls, natural swimming holes, ancient rock art, ruins, along with flora and fauna not found anywhere else on the planet. Our tour through the Grand Canyon of South America will leave you wanting more.
This 7 day whitewater rafting trip in Peru (total 9D/8N package) offers a one-of-a kind blend of scenic river journey, cultural experience in local villages and brilliant whitewater; all which can be squeezed into a single week of vacation. The Marañón offers unparalleled fly in- fly out access from starting and finish points and a long season which means you can go when its best for you. The best time to go is from June-November, however it's possible to raft this section year round.
We will take you to the heart of the Marañón.
Check out our Brochure for full itinerary, packing list, arrival and departure information
The main season for this raft tour is May to November, where weather is perfect! Predictably warm, dry and sunny; and water levels are prime.
In the shoulder seasons, May and November, water levels may fluctuate between low and high, and it's possible (though still quite unlikely) to have a rain system come through.
It is possible to travel between December-April, however water levels can be very high, and weather less predictable (storms are more likely in the wet season). For this reason, trips in this highwater season are only open to participants who are strong swimmers and experienced in the outdoors.
You will arrive to Cajamarca, Peru and check into the Hotel we have booked for you. You can explore this Andean City with unique blend of Peruvian and Colonial Architecture, or visit the Hot Springs that the Incas used at 'Baños del Inca'.
In the evening we will meet at 6pm in hotel lobby for a briefing and welcome dinner.
