      About this trip

We are going to live an adventure in Cajón del Maipo, an incredible mountain valley southeast of Santiago.

We will have different interesting stops along the way, in different towns and you will be able to appreciate unique geology and vast biodiversity.

We will go to the end of the road, almost on the border with Argentina, in the middle of the Andes mountain range to start our trek to the glacier viewpoint.

Option A) This trek has a distance of 10 km round trip, with a total elevation gain of 600 meters / 2000 ft.

The trail is well-marked and has no technical steps. Until the end, we have 2.5 – 3 hours going up and 1.5 – 2 hours going down.

The endpoint of the trek is at 3,200 meters, where we will arrive at the edge of the lagoon and at a spectacular viewpoint of the hanging glacier.

Option B) Morales Lagoon: 10 km roundtrip and 500 mts of elevation gain (2 hrs up and 1.5 down)

In any case, it is not necessary to reach the endpoint to appreciate the beauty of the landscape and enjoy a day of walking in the mountains. We will make this experience tailored to your group, their needs, and their energy during the day.

We will choose one of the trails in the Maipo based on your needs.

There are multiple options for everyone, we are 100% flexible, and will customize everything, don't worry.

Had a beautiful half day hike up Cerro Manquehue with Joaquin, who is really a delightful guy. The trail is not always easy to follow, so I was very glad we had a guide. We had gone up the back side of the mountain because the front is where most people hike in from, so we had very few other hikers on our path. We managed to see a herd of goats running across the path, which we were not expecting at all but it was so fun to see!

We had an amazing time, Omar and Theresa were both lovely and attentive. The horses are well looked after and have a great stomping ground! We rode through the field where horses, mules and donkeys from multiple farms were out which was lovely. Good views from the foothills of the Andes too over the mountains and city. We finished off with a bottle of wine and lunch outside the stables and chatted for a long time. Would highly recommend, very personal experience, they made you feel like part of the family for the day, not “just tourists”. We also booked last minute (the day before) which is very good service to be able to accommodate us.

Chile was a 12 hour layover for me and I knew I definitely didn’t want to spend it sitting in the airport! I googled things to do in Santiago and the one that sounded the most exciting was horseback riding in the Andes! I don’t speak Spanish and was concerned how I would communicate, how I would get to the location from the airport and most of all would I have enough time to do this once in a lifetime adventure during a layover?! I contacted Joaquin through email and asked all these questions and more. Not only did they arrange to pick me up and return me to the airport, but also sent an English speaking woman, Therese, to be my guide. What an incredible day…..great conversations, spectacular views, well trained horses, delicious Chilean snacks and meal ( complete with local wine)! Just a really wonderful experience. I highly recommend Joaquin and Therese for this amazing experience!
