Join Art of Islamic Pattern for three days of Islamic pattern and traditional craft in New York, combining a full day of geometric and biomorphic drawing with an immersive weekend of traditional wood marquetry.
Venue: TBC
10:00am–4:30pm
A full day of geometric and biomorphic pattern drawing using traditional compass-and-straightedge techniques.
The programme will feature a new selection of drawings, exploring the geometry, proportion and construction methods behind patterns from across the Islamic world.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as returning students wishing to expand their repertoire.
For the first time in the United States, we will be teaching our complete two-day traditional wood marquetry workshop.
Participants will work with beautiful natural hardwood veneers and decorative wood banding, learning how to select and combine different woods, cut precise geometric forms, use specialist marquetry tools and gradually assemble the individual pieces into an intricate geometric artwork.
All specialist materials are included, including hardwood veneers, decorative wood banding, wooden panels, adhesives and use of specialist tools and equipment.
At the end of the weekend, each artwork will be glued and clamped. We will then complete the final cutting, sanding and surface preparation after the workshop.
Your finished marquetry panel will be carefully packaged and posted to you approximately one week later. US delivery is included in the course fee.
