HIGHLIGHTS:

The 11 days Foum Zguid trek start from Foum zguid to Elmadouar lkbiir (This mountain is also called Tajine mountain). Walk in the hammada of Elmadouar Elkbiir in Elmadouar sghiir. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view. We will cross the fossil towards the dry lake Iriki. Then we leave for the oasis of Zouair Elbaid, our trek continues towards the dunes of Erg Elghoul. We will cross the dunes of Erg Elghoul in Ouad Elmhasser. We will cross Ouad Elmhasser, towards the north to reach the guelta (a natural swimming pool).
We will continue hiking through Ouad Elmhasser, Diabi osais and Tafrouat. Our trek From M'hamid desert continues towards Ouad Enaam. later we reach El Mizouaria. Finally we arrive at M´hamid el Gizhlane.

11 Days desert expedition departure Foum Zguid itinerary:

DAY 1: STARTING THE HIKE FROM FOUM ZGUID – ELMADOUAR LKBIIR.

After meeting the camel team and a small introduction for all team members we start through the hammada (rocky ground) on our way to the mountain Elmadouar Elkbiir. This mountain is also called Tajine mountain, because of its shape. It is also surrounded by some table mountains. After arriving in the oasis we will have lunch and a cup of tea in the oasis in front of the mountains. The view from the oasis to the mountains is already beautiful. But we will climb in the evening to one of the mountains and enjoy the breathtaking sun set with the view to the Tajine mountain.

We will pass the night in the oasis of Elmadouar. You can choose, if you wanna sleep outside under the milky way or if you prefer to sleep in a tent.

DAY 2: FROM ELMADOUAR LKBIIR TO ELMADOUAR SGHIIR.

This first days are a little introductory days to the desert, because we know that walking in the hammada is not easy for all of you. And also to have the equilibrium of the group, because we believe that the though person is the one who can walk faster but yet he/she is walking with the group with the same speed. For this tour, we will have grow together as a group.

This day we gonna walk around 18 km from Elmadouar Elkbiir to Elmadouar sghiir. The half of the way is still stony, but it gonna change in the last part. You will find less stones and find more and more sand.

In the evening we are gonna climb the mountain of Elmadouar, from the plateau we can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view.

DAY 3: FROM ELMADOUAR SGHIIR TO LAKE IRIKI

In the 4th day of the expedition we will cross the fossil in the direction of the dry lake Iriki. At the fossils place you can find the fossils just laying on the ground. Every fossil is a piece of the desert history of lake Iriki, which is considered as a national park. In the 60s it was really an amazing and big lake in which you could find many kinds of animals, like birds, desert gazelles and fishes. Since the Elmansour dahbi damn was built, there was no more water coming through the river of draa, so the lake Iriki disappeared and all the animals that couldn´t survive with less water.

This day we will walk round about 19 km to reach the edge of lake Iriki.

DAY 4: FROM LAKE IRIKI TO THE OASIS OF ZOUAIR ELBAID

Nowadays the lake Iriki is an epic scenery - the ground is dry and crusted. There are not trees left - so we will not find any shade while we are crossing the lake from the east to the west. But it´s easier to walk, because at the lake you will not find many stones and it´s flat.
While we are crossing lake Iriki we will make a good music with the dry salty mud. Today we will walk 18 kilometres, to reach a oasis in the middle of no where, close to Jebel Bani. Here we can have a desert shower.

DAY 5: FROM OASIS OF ZOUIAR LBAID TO THE DUNES OF ERG ELGHOUL

As usual we will first have breakfast and after we will help the camel team to put everything on the camels backs.
When the camels and the team is ready, we will take our way in south direction to one of the most beautiful places in the Moroccan desert, which is the big dune of Erg Elghoul. It has a very nice view from the big dune, you can see endless wave of dunes and the sun set is just amazing.

The ground we will walk over today, will be more and more sandy, till we will reach the big sand dunes.

DAY 6: FROM ERG ELGHOUL TO OUAD ELMHASSER

After having a lovely night in Erg Elghoul, deep in the dunes of lake Iriki, we will be prepared for one of the most toughest days in the whole expedition. But it will be a great experience! Now you wanna know why it is tough? It is because we will cross the dunes from Erg Elghoul to Ouad Elmhasser - it will be hard to go up and down with sand dunes and walking only in the sand. Trekking in the sand is one of the most difficult and exhausting ways. We need to cross 21 kilometres to reach the beginning of Ouad Elmhasser.

DAY 7 : FROM THE BEGINING OF OUAD ELMHASSER TO THE SWIMMING POOL OF GEULTA ELMSAFFI

Today we will be not far away from the entrance of Jebel Bani (mountains). We will walk through Ouad Elmhasser, to the north to reach the guelta (a natural swimming pool), to enjoy our day in middle of the big mountain Bani. After jumping and swimming in this natural pool, you will feel fresh and clean again. If you still have the energy to discover more, there are many mountains to climb and to have for an example another incredible sunset with a totally different view than the ones before.

Today it will be 15 km of walking.

DAY 8: FROM THE GUELTA TO DIABI OASIS AND TAFRAOUT

We will continue hiking through Ouad Elmhasser. Our first destination for the day is the diabi osais.  We will have a short break in this oasis to fill our canisters with water from the well and also to have a small snack to gain some energy again. Because this day, will also be one of the hardest - we will have do walk up and down the mountains.
Our final destination is the south side of the small village called Tafraout.
Today it will be 17 kilometres of walking.

DAY 9: FROM TAFRAOUT MOUNTAINS TO OUAD ENAAM

We will go south through ouad Enaam direction to our final destination M'hamid Elghazlane. The area will be still stony and hard to walk, but most of the time we just have to walk downhill. Here the camels will not walk with us, so we have to carry more water by our self. In the evening we will meet our camel team again.
When we arrive at our camp for the night, you will have the last chance to see the view of the Chegaga dunes from the top of one of the last big mountains before we will quit Jebel Bani.
The distance we have to walk today is 20 km.

DAY 10: FROM OUAD ENAAM TO EL MIZOUARIA

Today we will leave the mountains and hike to the south to reach the edge of M´hamid dunes in El Mizouaria.

After having a couple of days with harder hiking you will enjoy the last days in the beautiful sand dunes of the Sahara of Morocco.

DAY 11: CROSSING FROM EL MEZOUARIA TO REACH M´HAMID EL GIZHLANE

We will cross the dunes up and down to reach our last desert camp for this trekking. We gonna spend our last night in the middle of the dunes. Around the fire we will celebrate the end of our expedition with music and a fresh beer.

You will see the lights of M´hamid, the civilization that you left 12 days ago comes closer again.

We will cross the last few dunes to reach M'hamid our final destination. We will meet the minibus in the entrance of M'hamid Elghizlane to take us back to Marrakech. Time to say good bye to the camels and the team.

From M´hamid we will follow the road to Zagora. From the road will be companied by the beautiful oasis in Ouad draa.

In Ouarzazate we will have lunch in one of the most beautiful and oldest Kasbahs in Ouarzazate called Kasbah Taourirt. You can also visit the Kasbah and the museum after lunch.

Than we will continue the road to the high Atlas mountains to come back to Marrakech again. To drop you in your Hotel or in your Riad.
