About this trip

Come and experience the most EPIC TRAVEL ADVENTURE on the planet, hitching a ride on the Iron Ore train through the Sahara. In one of the world's least visited countries, Mauritania.

Mauritania, in West Africa, is what real travel is about. Feel the culture of the nomadic tribes, road trip deep into the desert, camping under the stars, but remember to watch out for wild camels as you cross the road though.

Starting in Nouakchott, we'll get to know our new group before we venture into the desert. Here we'll visit one of the ancient cities of Islam, Chinguetti. We'll also be off-roading through the sand dunes and staying in local villages. It doesn't get more real than this.

And then of course, there's the iron ore train. No tickets, no timetable, no seats. We'll hop on the back of the iron ore, and ride it through the night to the Atlantic coast. See you there!

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Mauritania

November 26th. Arrive in Nouakchott anytime. I’ll be there at least 1 day early.

Group dinner to see old friends who have traveled with me before and new crazy people who like to spend their vacation time in places like Nouakchott! Alcohol is strictly illegal. But, I know my way around this city, so we may even find a little bar from our friends ‘in-the-know’. Sssssh.

It was my first of hopefully many trips to come with Johnny. I was the least traveled person (only my 7th country outside the US) and one of the youngest and got along well with everyone in the group. I always felt perfectly safe. I wouldn’t have solo traveled Iraq so I’m thankful he put together this tour and I got the chance to see it. Can’t wait for my next adventure!

Perfectly organized and smooth in a country that is not easy to travel at. Amazing co-travelers.
