About this trip

Have any plans for Memorial Day? Get out of town and join Blue Planet for a long weekend of diving in Playa del Carmen! Complete your eLearning at home and then jet off to Mexico to finish your pool work and certification dives in the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean. Our instructors will be with you every step of the way! Certified divers are welcome too.

Playa del Carmen

On the eastern edge of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, divers can find the beachfront playground of Playa del Carmen in the Caribbean Sea.

This area has something for everyone -- beautiful reefs, exciting pelagic encounters, ancient Mayan sites and otherworldly underwater sinkholes and caves known as cenotes. From the brilliant beaches and warm, turquoise waters to the upscale shopping, restaurants and nightlife in the 5th Avenue district to exhilarating snorkeling, ziplining and tours of the Tulum and Chichen Itza archeological sites, the most popular activities, attractions and things to do on the Riviera Maya are just moments away.

The Diving

Minimum dive certification/experience:  Perfect for beginners. A great spot to complete your Open Water Diver certification, Advanced Open Water Diver and more.

There's a fantastic world beneath the Mexican Caribbean's transparent waters. This is known as the Great Maya Reef, the second largest in the world, where different species of corals, multicolored tropical fish and marine flora and fauna of incomparable beauty make their home.

Dive sites here feature beautiful caverns and healthy reef systems off sandy shores. You’ll also have access to Cancún’s dive sites including MUSA, an underwater museum and the world-famous Isla Mujeres. Otherwise, do not miss the opportunity to dive in the glassy cenotes or perhaps head out to Cozumel.

Hotel Plaza Phocea

Fifty yards from the beachfront and one block from vibrant 5th Avenue shopping and nightlife, you’ll find Hotel Plaza Phocea. It’s a welcoming and chill vibe with the basic hotel amenities. Numerous restaurants and bars are just a short walk away, or explore along the beach to find a place to dine.

We have reserved rooms with two double beds and bathroom. air conditioning, a hair dryer and mini fridge.

Travel

Round-trip flights to Cancun are around $300 and go up from there. You should plan to arrive at the Cancun airport on Saturday, May 29th. When leaving, choose any flight that leaves after 1 PM on June 2nd. Please contact the shop before booking your flights.

I had a great time with some wonderful people. Waiting to hear our next date to do it again.

Thank you Blue Planet for another amazing trip! This was my 5th trip with Blue Planet and I am already signed up for more! Heather and Jonas did a great job with pre-travel communication, especially with unique requirements due to COVID-19. The dive operator was great. The Aggressor Okeanos II staff was very professional with a focus on safety. Diving in Cocos was amazing! So many sharks! We saw Hammerheads, Galapagos, Black Tip, White Tip Reef, and Tiger sharks in addition to rays, dolphins, tunas, octopus, mantas, lobsters, eels, and all of the fish!!! 100% recommend Blue Planet and looking forward to my next dive adventure!!

Blue Planet continues to organize great trips. The diving was amazing- I’m still amazed by what we saw underwater. The liveaboard crew was fantastic and worked extremely hard. The only thing that could have been improved was the condition of the boat- it’s in need of a refresh. This was out of Blue Planet’s control due to Covid difficulties and the general difficulties of getting to Cocos. Blue Planet trips always have great diving and great people!

Thanks Andy! We're so glad you could join us on this epic trip! Hopefully the diving made up for the fact that the dive boat wasn't what you were expecting!

Another great trip with Blue Planet, my fourth, and I look forward to going on more!!! The BP owners, Heather and Jonas, make everyone feel welcome and work hard to make sure they have a great experience. It really doesn't matter where, e.g., in their shop, while taking a class, working on a certification at the quarry, or on a sun soaked trip to the Caribbean. The lodging in St. Croix was quite good and the dive shop used for our boat and shore dives did an excellent job. Heather and Jonas apparently have great relationships with all of the business partners they use on their trips. In addition, the daily itineraries are well planned and provide ample opportunities to dive and socialize. You can do everything and more each day, or take a pass on a dive or a group dinner if you want to go explore something else or just rest and relax. There are always friendly people on the trips, it is great to meet new buddies and to dive with familiar ones when you meet up with them again!

It was fantastic. Jeff was a great trip lead and we met some really nice new friends. The accommodation and food was fabulous and way above expectations. The dive team at Sea Saba were informed, took care of everyone and showed us some great dive sites. Cant wait to book the next trip with Blue Planet
