Everyone has heard of Nepal. That mythical place of Kathmandu’s temple squares, soaring stupas and cobbled medieval lanes. It’s the place that Mount Everest and 7 other of the 10 highest mountains on Earth call home. There’s a reason everyone has heard of Nepal. It has an aura all its own, exotic and unknown. Our expedition to this enigmatic land will allow you to see for your own eyes what others have only merely heard of.
Our 800-mile journey through the former kingdom begins in the 1,000 year-old city of Kathmandu. From there we head west via Bandipur to the adventure sports capital of Nepal, Pokhara. Straddling Phewa Lake and nestled at the foot of the Annapurna Massif, it is a beautiful, laid back town where you can drink in the natural beauty of the country.
Southward through the twisties of the Himalayan foothills takes us to the medieval town of Tansen where a night in one of our favourite guesthouses awaits. Further south, we experience a cultural evening in the town of Lumbini where Siddhartha Gautama, better known as the Buddha, was born.
Next up, things take a turn from the supernatural to the plain old natural. The 360 sq. mi. Chitwan National Park is considered one of the best places in Asia to observe wildlife in their natural habitat.
The final leg of our expedition loops us back toward Kathmandu via the beautiful World Heritage Site of Bhaktapur.

Pokhara will serve as our base for two nights to allow us ample time for excursions up into the mountains. We will take advantage of our mobility and head up to some of the awe-inspiring panoramic vistas of the Annapurna Range.
Day 6 sends us southward toward India. We’ll carve the day through lush valleys and majestic mountain passes along the Siddhartha Highway to the quaint
hillside town of Tansen. Perched high above the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the place exudes a charming medieval quality and provides a perfect spot to while
away an evening in the mountains.
It was 2,500 years ago the Siddhartha Gautama was born in the town in Lumbini. We’ll spend an afternoon exploring the site and taking in the Mayadevi Temple that celebrates his life as one of our civilization’s spiritual icons.
Today is a cruising day along the East – West Highway that brings us to lower elevations and warmer climes. And for those with inclination, a little offroading is also in store.
We end our day at the Chitwan National Park. Considered one of the best national parks in Asia, we’ll spend two nights at one of the best lodges within the park perimeter.
A bike free day will allow us to spend it taking in much of the natural beauty of this beautiful place. A group Jeep safari and a short trek will allow you to get up close an personal with the park’s population of elephants, rhinos, sloths and maybe, just
maybe, the elusive Bengal tiger.
