Today marks the commencement of our exploration of Mexico City with a walking tour starting at the Historical Center, also referred to as Centro Histórico. Erected in the 16th century atop the remnants of Tenochtitlan, the ancient Aztec capital, Mexico City now stands as one of the globe's largest and most densely populated urban areas. Within its bounds lie remnants of five Aztec temples, alongside architectural marvels such as the continent's grandest cathedral and striking 19th- and 20th-century edifices like the Palacio de las Bellas Artes .
Following this cultural immersion, our journey proceeds to the San Juan market, a vibrant hub of artisanal crafts, culinary delights, and exotic fare. Here, you'll savor the authentic flavors of Mexico, indulging in four distinctive types of tacos at Los Cocuyos, a culinary gem showcased in Netflix's acclaimed series, Taco Chronicles.
For the intrepid palates among us, opportunities abound to sample exotic delicacies, with a collective tasting of various types of Mezcal on offer.
Be sure to leave room for our group dinner, an exquisite culinary affair awaiting us at the renowned Corazón de Maguey restaurant nestled in the bustling Coyoacán neighborhood. Celebrated for its commitment to utilizing locally sourced ingredients, Corazón de Maguey promises an unforgettable dining experience replete with authentic Mexican flavors.
Following dinner, tantalizing cocktails await at a surprise locale, ensuring our day concludes on a delightful note of exploration and indulgence.
Today's itinerary includes a visit to the renowned Frida Kahlo Museum, affectionately known as the Blue House due to its striking cobalt-blue walls. Situated in the Colonia del Carmen neighborhood of Coyoacán, Mexico City, this historic house museum and art gallery is dedicated to celebrating the life and artistry of the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
Following our museum visit, we'll embark on a leisurely walking tour, with a delightful pit stop en route to indulge in classic Mexican coffee. Our journey will lead us to Mercado El Verde, also recognized as Coyoacán market, where you'll have the chance to see local artisians, and more food.
Afterwards we will journey to the Roma Norte neighborhood for a private tequila tasting session, complemented by two handcrafted cocktails tailored to our group.
Since this will be a half day, you'll have ample free time to explore other captivating neighborhoods at your leisure. Whether it's shopping, dining, or experiencing the vibrant nightlife, the evening is yours to enjoy.
We'll embark on a scenic hour-long drive to reach the Teotihuacan Pyramids, an ancient Mesoamerican city situated northeast of present-day Mexico City. Dating back to as early as 400 B.C., this city flourished into the most dominant and influential urban center in the region by 400 A.D. When the Aztecs encountered the city in the 1400s, they named it Teotihuacan, meaning "the place where the gods were created," though it had been abandoned for centuries by then.
Our morning will be dedicated to exploring the awe-inspiring Teotihuacan Pyramid complex. Following this enriching experience, we'll take a short stroll to La Gruta Restaurant, renowned for its traditional charm and culinary excellence. Here, amidst the captivating ambiance of a natural cave formation, guests will savor delectable dishes that showcase a fusion of local ingredients and pre-Hispanic culinary heritage. Additionally, traditional Mexican folk dance performances will further enhance the dining experience.
La Gruta's unique appeal lies in its subterranean setting, where guests are greeted by the mesmerizing sight of natural rock formations illuminated by soft lighting. The cool, cavernous interior offers a refreshing escape from the sun's warmth, adding to the restaurant's allure.
After lunch, the remainder of the day is yours to explore at your leisure, whether you opt to shop, sightsee, or simply have more cocktails!
