This 8-day journey through Morocco offers an unforgettable blend of culture, history, and natural beauty, all experienced in comfort and style. From the enchanting blue streets of Chefchaouen and the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis to the maze-like medinas of Fes and Marrakech, travelers will explore Morocco’s most iconic cities and sites with an expert guide.
Highlights include a luxury desert camp experience under the stars in the Erg-Chebbi dunes, camel rides, visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites like Ait Ben-Haddou, and a festive dinner with belly dancing. With small-group intimacy, upgraded accommodations, and seamless transportation, this itinerary is designed for travelers seeking both adventure and elegance.
Upon your arrival at the Tangier Airport, you'll meet the rest of the group and our guide, Mohamed, before driving straight to Chefchaouen. This majestic blue city is a must visit, and our upscale hotel offers stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains.
Spend the evening wandering Chefchaouen's charming Medina, shop for local handicrafts, or enjoy the hotel's beautiful pool with a view.
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll start our drive to Volubilis. As the ancient capital of the Roman kingdom of Mauritania, Volubilis is a well-preserved example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire. Our tour begins with a visit to this UNESCO World Heritage site.
After visiting Volubilis, the tour continues to Meknes, the former capital of Morocco and an imperial city known for its Spanish-Moorish style architecture. We'll stop here for lunch and a peek at the King's palace, before continuing onto Fes.
Fes is one of Morocco's largest cities and boasts a rich and storied history. We'll meet our local guide for a tour of Fes's medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site and quite possibly the world's largest urban pedestrian zone. Our guide will show us all of the highlights, including the famous tannery (as seen on The Amazing Race!), the Fes souk, a pottery, the Blue Gate, and the Royal Palace Gate.
Say goodbye to Fes as we start our journey toward the Sahara Desert. Our first stop will be in Ifrane, known as "Morocco's Switzerland" because of its chalet-type summer homes. Built by the French in 1929 as a cool respite during the hot summer months, this town is known for its gardens and pretty tree-lined streets.
After Ifrane, our tour continues through the Middle Atlas Mountains. We'll stop to visit with the monkeys before stopping again in Midelt for lunch and the Ziz Valley for pretty panoramas. We'll also stop in the village of Erfoud, an oasis town known for its incredible fossil finds!
Finally, we arrive at the Erg-Chebbi dunes with an astounding height of 150 meters. After choosing a camel, enjoy a one-hour ride to our desert camp (don't worry, we'll be "glam-ping!"). After some sandboarding and dinner, we'll be entertained with some music by the fireside, under the stars and moonlit desert sky. This camp has everything you will need for a cozy night in your tent.
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise among the sand dunes. After a refreshing breakfast, we'll drive through the dunes and toward Todra Valley with its beautiful palm orchards and old Berber-Jewish Kasbahs. We'll spend some time exploring the Todra Gorges, a splendid series of 300 meter-deep limestone river canyons.
After lunch in the Todra Valley, we'll continue on our way to Roses Valley to the Skoura Valley, known as the valley with a thousand kasbahs. Skoura's historic mud brick kasbahs dot the valley, a testament to the ancient desert traders who made the two-month journey across the Sahara. After Skoura, we will continue toward Ouarzazate, where we will spend the night.
Today, you'll visit Kasbah Ait Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most famous and historic places in Morocco.
Then, we'll continue our drive through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, before arriving in Marrakech, where you'll spend the night in a beautiful and authentic riad.
Marrakech is possibly the most important of Morocco's four former imperial cities. Today, it is one of the busiest cities in Africa and serves as a major economic center and tourist destination. A local expert will ensure we see all of the highlights, including Bahia Palace, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Souk and Medina, Majorelle Garden, Koutoubia, and Jemaa El Fna Square.
After the walking tour, you will have some time to relax or wander before enjoying a delicious dinner, complete with a belly dancing show.
Goodbye, Morocco! Today, you will be transferred to the airport in time for your flight home.
