The Mindo cloud forest is home to more than 400 bird species. There are also many different types of orchids, butterflies, mammals and amphibians, as the region is one of the most biodiverse places on earth. The cloud forest in the northeast of Ecuador is part of the Chocó Bioregion, a very humid area allowing for the development of plant life which can be seen growing everywhere! On this trip, you will discover all of this!
Mindo is popular and well-known and is located only two hours from Quito. The Mindo cloud forest is an ecosystem characterised by the presence of fog or ‘clouds’ at the height of the tops of trees that generate abundant moisture and development of mosses and epiphytes, which allows a wide variety of animals and plants with a high level of endemism. In Ecuador, the conservation of these forests has attracted considerable interest from NGOs and governments, so activities such as ecotourism and bird watching in Mindo, in particular, is a great opportunity for local communities to preserve this richness.
Apart from the beautiful ecosystem and nature, you can also partake in a number of different activities including ecotourism, adventure sports and hiking. We will not be doing this today but you might want to come back!
