The tour begins with pickups in El Calafate, followed by a comfortable bus journey with informative commentary about the area, the glacier, and the tour. Upon arrival at "Bajo de las Sombras" port, passengers board a ship to cross Lago Rico and disembark on the opposite coast, enjoying stunning views of Glaciar Perito Moreno along the way.
Expert mountain guides welcome passengers and lead them to a shelter with a prime view of the glacier to start the trek. Walking along the lake's coast, guests are treated to the spectacle of ice calvings and receive a talk on glaciology from the guides. Once at the glacier's side, participants are divided into small groups and equipped with crampons and helmets for safety. The personalized tour includes one guide for every ten passengers.
On the glacier, safety instructions are provided before guests embark on a journey through the frozen paradise, designated a World Heritage Site in 1981. After the ice trekking, visitors explore the area around the glacier and the side moraine, enjoying panoramic views of Glaciar Perito Moreno, the mountains, and the lake. The return journey includes a walk through the lush Bosque Andino Patagónico.
Upon returning to the shelter, visitors are offered hot drinks and a souvenir before embarking on the ship back to "Bajo de las Sombras" port. Before departure, passengers have the opportunity to admire the glacier's immense walls from the ship once more. The circuit on the glacier is of medium difficulty, the ice surface is irregular but firm and safe. During the hike you will be able to appreciate a variety of typical glacier formations such as deep crevasses, blue sinkholes, huge seracs and turquoise lagoons.
