Montana is a big and wild state. Conjuring images of wide open landscapes, snow-capped peaks, and dusty backroads, Montana has been an enigma in the minds of most.
Join us on this tour, a first of its kind, to all the hidden gems of the “Treasure State”, to off the beaten path locations full of wildlife and stunning landscapes!
The first half, or a great stand-alone trip, in a series of unique tours, we explore the vast open landscapes of eastern Montana. Even though it is home to the most intact shortgrass prairie left in the world, Montana is not on the average birders’ radar. We hope to change that.
This tour will show you the hidden gems of the prairie, from wetlands bursting at the seams with birds, to expanses of shortgrass prairie that stretch beyond the horizons. You will get a unique opportunity to see birds and wildlife in abundance, and search for some rare and sought-after species in the “Big Sky state”. Thick-billed Longspur, Mountain Plover, Baird’s Sparrow, Ferruginous Hawk, Sprague’s Pipit are some of the at-risk species we will look for, accompanied by Lark Buntings, Long-billed Curlew, and dozens of other open country birds.
The mammals are also a highlight, with chances for Coyote, American Badger, and White-tailed Jackrabbit among the more common Pronghorn and Richardson’s Ground-Squirrels.
