About this trip

Le P'tit Train du Nord was a railroad built between 1890 and 1909 by the former Canadian-Pacific Railway that played a major role in the economic development and population of the region north and west of Montreal. Converted to a multi-use recreational trail in the 1990s, it travels through the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec past Mont Tremblant. We ride southeast from its northern terminus, the town of Mont Laurier to the Montreal suburb of St. Jerome, covering 128 miles (206 km) over 4 days. The region is French and the landscape is spectacularly scenic.

To provide even more value and enjoyment on this tour, in 2024 we will convene on Saturday afternoon in Montreal to get acquainted and enjoy some sights and tastes of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal). On Sunday morning we'll take a specially guided, 3.5 hour cycling tour of Montreal, visiting highlights such as Griffintown, Canal Lachine, Atwater Market, Habitat 67 site, Old Montreal highlights including Pointe-à-Callière, Notre Dame Basilica, Jacques Cartier plaza, Bonsecours Market, the Old Port area including riding next to the Saint Lawrence river, and 3 stops in the Plateau Mont-Royal-Square Saint-Louis area to see some of the typical houses,, explore some of the neighborhoods' public art, and visit to the base of the Mont Royal. Our loop will be completed by entering the downtown area through McGill University and Peel Street. Of course our guide will provide historical information, but also talk about food, urbanism, Montreal culture and way of living, English-French relationships and specific aspects that make the city a special one in North America.

Excellent guides and an amazing travel experience. The GAP trail is spectacular. Consider providing the guides with some additional historical information about the trail, towns, areas. Special sites at particular mile markers would be really cool too. We loved all of our accommodations - especially the Smith House in Confluence. The Yoder House hosts and food were great. The rooms were dated and the mattress was old and uncomfortable. Thanks for another great Senior Cycling experience.

I had a wonderful time traveling the Great Allegheny Passage with Senior Cycling. Our leaders, Mike and Nick were fabulous. As a solo traveler, I was welcomed and made to feel part of group immediately. Hotels and B&B were all nice and I would stay again. Food was good and our single gluten-free rider felt like her needs were met. Special shout out to Chuck at Yoder Guest House who made a special trip to Flight 93 Memorial for a small group.

The cycling from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland is easy-grade, incredibly well-maintained rails to trails... with a beautiful downhill stretch the last 22 miles. Nature surrounds with woods, and the sound of waterfalls and the Monongahela, Youghiogheny and Casselman rivers running alongside for most of the distance. Senior Cycling provided great accommodations, comradery, at a reasonable price. The food was outstanding, and all of our hotels and bed & breakfasts had comfortable quarters with beautiful, often historic character. One of the best groups I've bike-toured with: kindness, laughter, and generosity at every turn. It was an amazing and wonderful trip.

What a beautiful area! The riding was wonderful, except for the day it was cold and raining. But the tour leaders came through and picked us up as soon as they could. Jack and Maer are great! There are so many extracurricular activities in the area it was hard to see them all. I will definitely consider this trip again in the future as there is so much to see and do. It is easy to understand why this is one of the top ten rail trails in the country. It is outstanding!

Everything was lovely, with comfortable and clean accommodations and knowledgeable and friendly guides. Food was good, ranging from local pizza to gourmet meals at delightful restaurants. While the weather wasn't cooperative (rained 3 out of 5 days), the Great Allegheny Passage trail was still stunningly beautiful. I would definitely ride the GAP again, and plan on checking out other Senior Cycling bike tours!
