Hi there, I'm Terry Newton. Founder of Kindred Spirits. I created Kindred Spirits out of an unshakable love for horses and a passion for learning and sharing knowledge with all the souls that cross my path. Kindred Spirits itself isn’t so much a place, as it is a collection of moments and ideas shared with all the wonderful people that find their way to us. We're here to give you the tools, knowledge, and space you need to let go of what's holding you back, make positive changes, and live your life to the fullest.

I had a truly lovely experience at Kindred Spirit. The yoga classes were meaningful and well guided, and the connection with the horses was something very special — a unique and authentic experience. The staff was kind, welcoming, and always available, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere throughout the stay. The only small note I would mention is regarding gluten-free meals: although it was communicated during the booking process, I found myself gently reminding it during my stay. It was always handled with care, and I truly appreciated the team’s attention. Overall, it’s a place I would warmly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and enriching experience.

This is a long review but I feel like I need to be honest and share my experience in full. I booked a Petite Retreat in Feb 2026. I booked many months ahead of time as I have 3 young kids and needed to plan ahead. I was also coming from Denver, CO and the logistics of getting there were a bit complicated. A week before my retreat I was told the others who were going to join me had cancelled and I would either need to reschedule or we could pivot and do some private classes and I could still come albeit in different accommodations and I would need to self-cater. Rescheduling is a hard ask when you've marketed a retreat, so I chose the pivot option. The self-catering wasn't ideal as groceries were very expensive (I spent $150USD at the market for 3 days and didn't buy much) and if I'm honest I didn't really want to cook for myself on a $350/night retreat. I also agreed to adding on a mushroom ceremony and microdose chocolate without being told the price beforehand. This is my fault, I should have asked as it was an extra $180 for both. Lastly, I was told I could do a beach ride with the horses and go in the water as pictured on their social, but when I went for the ride it was an extra $40 to go in the water with the horses. I felt an uncomfortable expectation that because I was a gringa coming from the US, I could just afford whatever add-ons at whatever price and I was actually told while I was there "to not worry about money." That's a hard statement for anyone who might be financially sacrificing to be there to heal with the horses. Also, on day 2 the water tank broke and I was left for 24 hours without being able to shower or use my toilet. I thought maybe Terry would cover some of these extra costs to make up for this inconvenience but she didn't. I was told that for those who live there things are also expensive so "it's just the price they pay to live in paradise." Correction: It's the price YOU will pay at this retreat so THEY can live in paradise. At the end of the day I don't think what was delivered was worth the price point. HOWEVER, all that being said, the property is stunning and it is a gorgeous retreat into the jungle. Terry does a wonderful job caring for the horses (who are very sweet and special and intuitive) and the mushroom ceremony was truly divine. She is a kind and gentle soul and has created a very peaceful and welcoming space, I just wish the situation had been handled less from a profit mindset and more from a guest experience stand point. Be prepared that this part of Costa Rica is very expensive and you will likely spend more than you planned for.

I’ve taken classes of many different kinds in my 59 years, I am a LMT, NMT bodyworker, alt health care - I have been trained in many modalities And kindred spirits is the only one who goes from easy to hard and bounces around the diff poses- every other class starts with the easy and leads you up to the hard-it was the most disorganized class I have ever taken and the anatomy teacher had her anatomy wrong on two different points - I am a massage therapist other thing a I know muscles well , The accommodations were a bit of a problem I that they had mold issues - many pillows were moldy under the pillowcases - and students were developing sore throats through two programs I went through within 2-3 days sleeping on moldy pillows - sofas in living room many of the girls that sat their for more than 10-15 min were covered I. But bites - their is also major wood eating creature eating their furniture and porch poles,, I the hostel up the street was cleaner- many power outages and no gens or backup - coon raids in the kitchen and by the third day nats will be your kitchen pal cause they only dump the compost 1x a week It’s nasty and poorly organized

The accommodations were moldy- if you go take your own everything’s, you get 1 towel a week , had to ask for things like TP… Critter between my ceiling and roof , ants in bed Termites in furniture- horses were great - but things taught in this class are dangerous not because of what they are doing but because how they are teaching it- I watched two girlls suffer from being stepped on - requiring a visit for medical visit and two girls were bitten - this could have been avoided with a 30-60 min class were educated of basic horse awareness that is not partially delusional thinking. This place is potentially dangerous- the things she teaches in the wrong arena with the wrong horse could get you seriously hurt - more awareness of basic equine anatomy and how the horse operates could prevent a lot of future hurt stepped on people. Not pushing their horses when they are nervous is another thing that makes this place unsafe. I know horses - they are 1000 creatures - if you don’t respect them and move accordingly with them be aware and maybe make real boots instead of flip flops a requirement - much could be improved - buyer beware : AYOR - it’s really to bad because the yoga aspects on horseback are beautiful. But with horses and all animals - what looks like play is often also a way to check and see how far they can push and can turn from friendly to hurtful in a hurry if you don’t know how to respond…….i could go on and on so I will simply repeat AYOR- At your own risk
