This amazing 9-day tour encompasses all four Imperial Cities: Rabat, Fes, Meknes, and Marrakech, each bearing witness to the grandeur of Morocco's imperial past.  Each of Morocco's imperial cities tells a unique tale, weaving together the threads of Morocco's rich history and cultural tapestry,  and each reveals the secrets of ancient dynasties and architectural marvels.

Arrive in Casablanca

On the first day of our tour we will arrive in Casablanca, located on the Atlantic coast – the largest city and business center of Morocco.

Day 2: Travel to Rabat, the current Imperial City.

Rabat , the current political and administrative capital of Morocco, is where the modern seamlessly intertwines with historical grandeur along the Atlantic coastline.  It invites you to explore its rich cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and the tranquil ambiance that defines this coastal gem.

Key attractions:

  • Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site:  where blue and white houses offer panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Hassan Tower: You will be able to spend time in the area surrounding this landmark , constructed in the 12th century, where your guide will tell you the history of this Tower.
  • Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the final resting place for the late Mohammed V and his two sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdullah.
  • Chellah: You will see the ancient Roman and medieval ruins of Chellah, a fortified Muslim necropolis and ancient archeological site dating back to the first millennium BC, surrounded by lush gardens and a tranquil atmosphere, offering a serene escape from the city.
  • The Royal Palace: We will take you to view the exterior and grounds of the Royal Palace that reflects the contemporary role of Rabat as the current political capital.

In the late afternoon we will travel to Fes, the first of Morocco's Imperial Cities, founded in 789 AD.  The approximate travel time is 4.5 hours

Day 3: Fes

Fes, the first of Morocco's Imperial Cities, was founded in 789 AD.

Located in northern/inland Morocco, Fes is the second largest city in Morocco with a population of over 1.2 million. It is considered the spiritual and cultural hub of Morocco and the second holiest city in the Islamic faith, after Mecca. Fes was the Imperial City three more times as various dynasties rose and fell. The medina is renowned as one of the most perfectly preserved cities in the world.


Key Attractions:

  • Chouara Tannery: Historically, Fes is one of Morocco’s main centers for trade and craftsmanship. You will witness the ancient art of leather tanning and be provided insight into the craft that has been practiced for centuries.
  • Agricultural area outside of Fes: The area around the city is rich for agriculture where they grow grapes, olives, beans, cereals, and livestock.
  • Fes-El-Bali: We will take you on a walking tour through the largest pedestrian-only alleyway in the world, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and known as the Medina of Fes. The alleys are filled with art and artisans working on their crafts, ancient mosques, and numerous restaurants creating sensual delight with the delectable scents and flavors of traditional Moroccan cuisine.
  • Al-Qarawiyyin University: founded in 859 AD, this is the world’s oldest continuously operating educational institution, a testament to Fes’ scholarly heritage. It is not only a center of learning, but also an architectural marvel with its beautiful courtyard and library.
  • Tour of Pottery Co-op: observe the artisens creating the mosaics and pottery from start to finish.  Option to purchase.
  • Tour a rug and tapestry Business: learn about the ancient art of rug and tapestry designs and creations. Option to purchase.

Day 4: Meknes

The Versailles of Morocco was the Imperial City from 1672 to 1727.

Meknes was founded in the 11th century as a military settlement. The city is surrounded by high walls with large doorways and currently blends 17th-century Islamic and European styles. It was Morocco’s Imperial City under the reign of the sultan, Moulay Ismail.  Ask your guide to share more information about this powerful Sultan. NOTE: This is a day trip. The night will be spent in Fes. Travel time estimate: 1.5 hours. 


Key attractions:

  • The Medina (a *UNESCO World Heritage Site), Bab Mansour (a grand entrance to Meknes and one of the most impressive gates in Morocco).
  • Moulay Ismail Mausoleum:  We will take you inside this magnificent mausoleum of the sultan, Moulay
  • Prison of Habs Qara: a sizeable underground prison said to house 60,000 prisoners (primarily slaves).
  • The Royal Stables: filled with 1000’s of horses in the past.
  • Volubilis: a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located nearby, is considered to be a well-preserved example of a Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire. Nestled amidst rolling hills and fertile plains, Volubilis invites you to step back in time to the days when ancient Rome left an indelible mark on North Africa.

Travel to Marrakech, the “Red City”.

Marrakech captures Morocco’s exotic history and dynamic essence spectacularly.  The city is filled with museums, mosques, riads, palaces, and fabulous restaurants.  This is an excellent place for shopping as there are 3000+ stalls with vendors you can haggle with as you decide what to bring home for your memories. NOTE: Travel time from Fes to Marrakech is approximately 6 hours.


Key Attractions:

  • Jemaa El-Fnaa (a *UNESCO World Heritage Site): you will be given a walking tour throughout the medina of Jemaa el-Fnaa where you’ll be surrounded by snake charmers, acrobats, and magicians as well as a wide variety of vendors. The area is surrounded by souks where 1000’s of vendors provide a wide variety of things to purchase. You might want some incredible Moroccan spices or some babouche slippers, a unique piece of handmade clothing or jewelry, tapestries, rugs, and so much more.  You might even find some magic potions.
  • Bahia Palace, a 19th century palace.
  • Koutoubia Mosque.
  • Saadian Tombs
  • The Secret Garden.

The Agafay Desert

The Agafay Desert is nestled just outside of Marrakech, offering a unique and captivating desert experience that’s easily accessible from the bustling city. Visitors are charmed with its arid beauty, rolling hills, and the promise of tranquility against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains. NOTE: Approximate travel time is 1 hour.


Key Attractions:

  • You will stay in luxury tents.
    • You will be provided with dinner and breakfast of traditional Moroccan cuisine (included in the price of the tour).
    • Ride on camels, horses or ATV’s.
  • The sunsets are breathtaking.  The changing colors of the sky, coupled with the silhouettes of the Atlas Mountains, create a magical and serene atmosphere.
  • You will be entertained by locals around a large campfire.
  • Incredible starlit sky.

Marrakech

Welcome back to Marrakech, the vibrant heart of Morocco where history, culture, and charm collide. Wander through bustling souks, admire stunning palaces, and lose yourself in the enchanting Medina. Marrakech offers a sensory feast that captures the soul of Morocco.


Key Attractions:

  • Jardin Majorelle displays plants from 5 continents. 
  • Berber Museum and Yves Saint Laurent Museum. 

Optional activities (not included in tour price):

  • Hot air balloon rides.
  • Moroccan cooking class.
  • Horse drawn carriage or motorcycle sidecar rides.
  • Food tasting tour.
  • We also encourage you to experience a traditional hammam while in Morocco.

Travel to Casablanca

After a leisurely drive we will find ourselves back in the stunningly beautiful city of Casablanca. There, we'll enjoy a final dinner at a location of your choice. Please remember that Rick's Cafe: requires reservations. If your arrival time at the beginning of the tour doesn't allow for including it that night, we can add it to this ending night. If Rick's isn't important to you, please let us know, and we will make other plans. NOTE: Approximate travel time today will be 5 hours.
