About this trip

The Sugarloaf Mountain Climb via Costão is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic adventures — a truly unforgettable experience for those seeking something beyond the ordinary.

Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the most famous landmarks in Brazil, and reaching its summit through this historic route is a privilege for a select few. With Nattrip, you are invited to follow the same path used during the first ascent of the mountain in 1817, combining adventure, history, and breathtaking scenery.

The experience begins at Cláudio Coutinho Trail, where a short walk leads to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the entrance of Guanabara Bay and the city of Niterói. From there, the adventure becomes more dynamic, with a combination of forest trails, rock slabs, and scenic viewpoints along the way.

One of the highlights of the tour is a 20-meter vertical section, considered a beginner-level climb. Don’t worry — all safety equipment is included, and you will be guided by experienced professionals throughout the entire activity, making it safe and accessible even for first-timers.

After this exciting section, the route continues along a technical trail until reaching Pedra Filosofal, one of the most impressive viewpoints in Rio, offering panoramic views of Copacabana Beach, Pedra da Gávea, and Morro Dois Irmãos.

From there, the final stretch leads to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, where you will be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking views in the city.

To end the experience, the descent from Sugarloaf Mountain to Morro da Urca is made by the famous cable car. From Morro da Urca, the return to Praia Vermelha is done via a trail. For those who prefer, it is also possible to descend by cable car (optional and not included).

This adventure is perfect for those who want to experience climbing for the first time in a safe and controlled environment, while enjoying one of the most iconic landscapes in the world.
