Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival in Kathmandu
Your journey begins in the cultural heart of Nepal. As the plane descends into the Kathmandu Valley, the ridges of the Himalayas fade into view like ancient guardians. Our team welcomes you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel. In the evening, we gather for a warm welcome dinner—sharing stories, expectations, and an introduction to the ancient kingdom you are about to enter.
Day 2 — Kathmandu Heritage & Trek Preparation
Today is your first immersion into Nepal’s living heritage. You visit sacred Swayambhunath, the white dome of Boudhanath, and the temples of Patan Durbar Square—each holding memories centuries old. In the afternoon, we conduct a trek orientation, review gear, and talk about Mustang’s culture, history, and the mindful travel ethos that guides our journeys.
Day 3 — Fly to Pokhara
A short, scenic flight takes you to Pokhara where the Annapurnas rise like a glowing wall. You spend the day by Phewa Lake, letting the energy settle before heading into Mustang’s desert landscapes. As evening arrives, your guide shares insights into the Lo Kingdom—once forbidden, now cautiously opening to curious travelers.
Day 4 — Fly to Jomsom, Trek to Kagbeni (2,900 m)
Early morning winds push the small plane through the Kali Gandaki Valley and land you in Jomsom, gateway to Mustang. The trek to Kagbeni is gentle and winds along a wide riverbed filled with fossils and wind-carved cliffs. Kagbeni greets you with its medieval alleys, red-walled monastery, and the sense of stepping into another world. This is the threshold of Upper Mustang.
Day 5 — Trek Kagbeni to Chele (3,050 m)
Your Upper Mustang permits are checked at the entry point, and the trail opens into the restricted region. The landscapes change almost instantly—becoming drier, more open, and painted in rusty browns and ochres. You pass chortens, cave dwellings, and wind-sculpted cliffs before reaching Chele, a cliff-side village with views stretching endlessly north.
Day 6 — Trek Chele to Syangboche (≈3,800 m)
Leaving Chele, the trail begins to climb steeply through dramatic canyons. You cross Taklam La and Dajori La, two high passes offering wide Himalayan panoramas. The dry desert wind picks up as you traverse ridgelines once used by ancient traders. Eventually, the path descends toward Syangboche, a quiet settlement tucked against windswept hills. The silence of Mustang is deep here—perfect for slow walks and reflection.
Day 7 — Trek Syangboche to Ghami (3,520 m)
From Syangboche, the trail moves through high, open valleys framed by red cliffs and folded sandstone. As you crest Yamda La and continue along the ridge, the horizon opens to reveal the deep valley of Ghami—the third-largest village in Mustang. Ghami feels timeless, with whitewashed houses, ancient mani walls, and fields that glow green against the barren desert.
Day 8 — Trek Ghami to Tsarang (3,620 m)
Today’s walk is both beautiful and historically rich. You cross a gorge and follow the long, iconic Ghami Mani Wall, said to be the longest in Mustang. The trail rises and falls across ochre slopes before Tsarang appears—a disciplined grid of houses, fields, and one of Mustang’s most important gompas. Its red palace walls glow amber at sunset.
Day 9 — Trek Tsarang to Lo Manthang (3,840 m)
This is a special day. The trail from Tsarang climbs gently before delivering you to the windy plateau overlooking the fabled Walled City of Lo Manthang. From a distance, the ancient capital resembles a mirage—an oasis of life within a vast stone desert. Passing through the fortified gate, you enter a world of whitewashed homes, monasteries, and timeless alleyways.
Day 10 — Explore Lo Manthang
You spend the entire day inside Mustang’s cultural and spiritual heart. Lo Manthang’s monasteries—Thubchen, Jampa, and Chhoede—hold centuries-old murals and mystical teachings. You meet local artisans, visit the royal palace (when permitted), and walk to nearby villages like Tingkhar. Every corner holds stories: kings, nomads, sky caves, and the resilience of a proud Himalayan identity.
Day 11 — Excursion to Chhoser Caves & Villages
Today you journey north toward Chhoser, one of Mustang’s most fascinating regions. Here, hundreds of sky caves cling to vertical cliffs—some meditation chambers, some burial sites, some ancient dwellings. You explore the famous Jhong Sky Cave, walk through pastures grazed by horses, and return to Lo Manthang with a deeper sense of Mustang’s antiquity.
Day 12 — Trek Lo Manthang to Yara (3,550 m)
Leaving the walled city behind, the trail turns southeast toward the rugged Yara Valley. This is a less-visited part of Mustang where cliffs resemble melted wax and the silence feels immense. Yara is remote and peaceful—perfect for photography, quiet reflection, and understanding Mustang’s desert ecology.
Day 13 — Visit Luri Gompa, Trek to Tangge (3,060 m)
This morning, you visit Luri Gompa, a cliff-side cave temple famous for its ancient frescoes and mystical atmosphere. After the visit, the trail descends toward the isolated village of Tangge. The day feels like a pilgrimage, with long stretches of open valley and dramatic rock formations guiding your path.
Day 14 — Trek Tangge to Chhusang (2,980 m)
A long but rewarding day brings you from the solitude of Tangge back to the more traveled paths near Chhusang. You cross suspension bridges and follow the river’s curves. At Chhusang, the bright red cliffs and cave dwellings offer a final glimpse into the prehistoric landscapes of Mustang.
Day 15 — Chhusang to Jomsom via Muktinath (3,760 m)
This final trek ascends toward Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site where 108 holy water springs and eternal flames symbolize liberation. After exploring the shrine, you descend to Jomsom and enjoy a final celebration dinner with your trekking team—stories, gratitude, and shared purpose.
Day 16 — Fly Jomsom → Pokhara → Kathmandu
A scenic morning flight retraces your path through the Kali Gandaki gorge. Back in Kathmandu, you settle in for a restful evening or optional heritage walks.
