John Zaffis has over thirty years of experience studying and investigating the paranormal. He has had the opportunity to work for and with his aunt and uncle, Ed and Lorraine Warren. This sent John beyond looking for ghosts and hauntings and into studying demonology under the Warrens. This led to John’s involvement with cases of possession and exorcism and working with prominent exorcists in this field. Roman Catholic priests, monks, Buddhists, rabbis, and ministers. John has assisted and worked with well-known exorcists Bishop Robert McKenna, Malachi Martin, and the Rev Jun.
His research has taken him throughout the United States, Canada, England, and Scotland covering several thousands of cases. Through hands-on investigating with other investigators and clergy. Ghosts and poltergeists were among some of his first-hand paranormal experiences, as well as the demonic and diabolical. He has also worked extensively with both spiritualists and psychics concerning how their knowledge is used for channeling, reincarnation (past-life regression), or the calling of the spirits for information, and how they use meditation to acquire the information which they are seeking.
Considered one of the foremost authorities in the field today, he has earned the title of "The Godfather of the Paranormal", which salutes his great deal of knowledge and understanding of the paranormal.
John was featured in a popular SyFy Channel show called the Haunted Collector. John has also been featured in the Discovery Channel’s documentaries, “A Haunting in Connecticut” and “Little Lost Souls.” John has also appeared on Ghost Adventures, Unsolved Mysteries, Fox News Live, and many other print and news media events. John is also mentioned in the books of Ed and Lorraine Warren, “GRAVEYARDS” and “IN A DARK PLACE.”
John’s first book, Shadows of the Dark, co-written with Brian McIntyre, was released in September of 2004. Currently, John continues to work on multiple follow-up books currently and is lecturing all over the United States at colleges and universities, including exorcisms, possession, poltergeist, and haunted artifacts removed from cases, some of which now reside in the museum he has created in Connecticut.

Athens (Eleusis, Ancient Agora of Athens, Acropolis Hill)
Welcome to Athens, the fabled and vibrant metropolis of Greece….
We will start our first day in Athens by visiting the archaeological site of Eleusis, the ancient sanctuary of the goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone which is associated with the cultivation of land, vegetation, fertility, as well as with the regeneration of nature and life.
The Eleusinian Mysteries were the most sacred of all Ancient Greek mysteries and were practiced for over a thousand years. These secret religious rites of ancient Greece are known as ‘mysteries’ because the initiates were sworn to secrecy to never speak about what they had undergone or the knowledge they had gained. We do know that the Sacred Rites of Eleusis focused upon removing the fear of death and the Afterlife from its adherents and offering initiates a happier life after their death.
We continue our tour in the Ancient Agora of Classical Athens, a place where Socrates and Plato used to hang out and teach their pupils. The Agora (marketplace) is located to the northwest of the Acropolis and was the meeting point of the ancient Greeks and the heart of ancient Athens, the focus of political, administrative, social, and commercial activity, the religious and cultural center, and the seat of justice.
We will wander through the ruins of the most significant buildings and structures such as:
- Monument of the Eponymous Heroes - it was a marble podium that bore the bronze statues of the ten heroes representing the tribes of Athens
- Bouleuterion - It served as a meeting-place of the 500-member Boule (Senate), made up of fifty citizens, from each of the ten Athenian tribes, chosen by allotment each year.
- Tholos - It was the headquarters of the 50 prytaneis who served as the executive committee of the Boule (Council) for an interval of 35 or 36 days.
- Altar of the Twelve Gods – It was an altar and sanctuary dedicated to the twelve Olympian Gods.
We will continue towards the sacred hill of the Acropolis. During this focused walk, we will look closely at the Acropolis and its essential role in the city.
Our visit will cover the main buildings of the Acropolis, including:
- The Propylaea- the monumental entrance to the Acropolis
- The Erechtheion – an ancient Greek temple that was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon
- The temple of Athena Nike – Nike means victory in Greece and Athena was worshipped as the goddess of victory in war and wisdom. - And, of course, the Parthenon.
You will finish this day with a deeper comprehension of ancient Athenian society and a basic answer to why Athens is widely considered the touchstone of western civilization, the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, sciences, and classical art.
PLEASE NOTE: Itineraries are subject to slight change depending on availability or weather & travel conditions.
