About this trip

Where the power of running unites people to make a difference in the places we run.

The Impact Marathon Series returns to where it all began in 2016 - Nepal. Over the last 3 years, we have built an experience like no other, and you should be ready to see an entirely unique side to the country.

Our community engagement centres around water & sanitation in the local community - you will be

The Impact

See feel and understand your impact - who we support in Nepal

As part of our commitment to the United Nations Global Goals, over the past three years we've been supporting these two fantastic charities - we believe they are particularly pertinent to Nepal:

Within each goal we have partnered with amazing charities that we are putting our weight behind to really have an impact. During our week together in Nepal, you'll get the chance to visit the projects, meet the people who run them and understand your impact.

The IMS Foundation takes the biggest challenges facing Nepal & seeks out the most extraordinary grassroot organisations who are working to catalyse real change in the country.

Childreach Nepal: Children should be #TaughtNotTrafficked. This project uses sports as a tool for development and aims to provide not just technical skills, but support the holistic development of children through sports activities. The programme aims to reduce dropout rates in the schools, to prevent child from being trafficking, indulging in unsafe migration and any other form of child abuse children may face once they drop out of school. It also focuses on bringing equality among the community regardless of gender, race and economic background of the family

Burns Violence Survivors: With 56k of burns cases a year and only 1 hospital ward dedicated, this is a powerful project that goes right to the heart of Nepali culture. Not only tackling the care, but the prevention - a huge challenge when faced with the task of tackling domestic abuse and the use of acid in such attacks. Since starting the Nepal Impact Marathon we have funded 15 life-saving surgeries for burns victims, and with your support we can really ramp that up this year.

We take The Global Goals from being sometimes abstract concepts to being real, tangible and understandable on a micro-level.

The Impact Marathon dream is to elevate running to be a major contributor to achieving the UN GLOBAL GOALS!

The Race

Are you ready for the race of a lifetime?

After five days working and living in our stunning Athletes' Village up in the mountains of Kakani, it's time to run them. Through the community, through the solitude of the stunning Shivapuri National Park, through the depths of your inner strength, the ultimate run.

This is truly a race like no other...

42km - The Beast Of Shivapuri

The Greeks invented the marathon, but Nepal is taking it to the next level. This distance is a brutal battle of man vs nature and will surely be the hardest but most rewarding race of your life. With 2000m of climbing on the trails of Shivapuri National Park, this 2 lap course is the ultimate test of a runners ability.

You will be pushed to your limit, you will feel like you can't go on. But when you dig deep, when you keep moving you will earn the right proudly say you conquered The Beast Of Shivapuri.

21km - Loop the Loop

A unique opportunity to run a simply incredible loop of Shivapuri National Park. Make no mistake about it, with over 1000m of climbing this is a course that is for strong runners who can take on these challenging trails.

You will take on the our Savage Summit as well as some technical descents and a thrilling waterfall crossing- it is a true test of your running ability.

10km - Starter for Ten

A 10km race that feels so much further! This is a serious test for any runner. With almost 600m of climbing, finishing this race will feel absolutely amazing. Indeed, it has the hardest hill of all our distances. If this is your first running race it truly will be the best.

Running with and through the Kakani community, this is our most popular route. For the fastest runners in Nepal this will be a competitive and thrilling race.

If you are not a runner, we invite you to hike this course.

Base Camp

Without doubt our most popular option, this is the party spot!. You'll be sharing with two other badass adventures who will become your best friends and running buddies.

We'll provide a big scout-camp style tent with floor mattresses, bedding and pillows. If you feel the cold, it's advisable to bring a sleeping bag too as it does get pretty chilly at night. Bring lots of warm clothes and you'll be set to enjoy this beautiful spot. Warm showers and toilets await you and more prayer flags than you will know what to do with.

Summit Camp

For those who want that little bit extra. Just one other roommate here, and when we say room we mean a huge tent, with beds, shelves, seats. We have created your glamping (glamorous camping) to ensure that even if this is your first night under canvas, you will be a few steps closer to heaven. It's simple but it will feel like home, your own cocoon above the clouds.

You will open your tent to the north each morning and take in the wonders of the Himalaya. You have showers and toilets just a few feet from your tent and all bedding is provided - but if you feel the cold, we'd recommend you bring a sleeping bag as it can get pretty chilly at night.

Trip postponed due to Covid and political situation in Ethiopia so still haven't travelled

The trip itself was great, brilliant guides and amazing things to see. The organising and communications from the old town outfitters was poor - we had three different versions of timings and itineraries! It would have also been better if we’d had more free time at the lake (as at least one itinerary suggested...) as all the steps and the post marathon body did need a bit more tlc than it got on this trip

An amazing experience. Everything was so well organised - the team really go out of their way to make sure that everyone has an unforgettable experience. A great mix of travel, meeting some amazing people, giving back and running in a stunning national park. The run is suitable for anyone - from people walking the 10k to people completing their 50th Marathon! If you are thinking of booking Nepal 2020 then do it - you won't regret it!

An absolutely incredible week, and a totally unique experience. I’d echo the other reviews – Impact week’s are not your typical tourist trip: we got hands on helping rebuild a mountain road, had our eye’s opened with some challenging but inspiring charity visits, stayed in a fantastic location with some of the most stunning views, and best of all shared it all with some amazing people. I’d highly recommend Impact trips for anyone travelling solo, they’re a great way to meet a real mix of people from all over the world who are brought so closely together by the experiences over the week.
