This popular day trip to New Bern is particularly special this year as it celebrates the 100th year anniversary of the New Bern Historical Society. The Society is going "all out" with multiple events planned for the day. First, the Heritage Homes Tour returns featuring two historic districts with homes ranging from glorious to tiny, from 19th century to brand spanking new. These are livable family homes with rich stories and diverse architecture that illustrates New Bern's amazing history. Add artists, live music, gardens in bloom, historical churches, and a very special Roaring 20's themed garden party to the mix for an unforgettable tour!
The capstone is the Historical Society’s extended gift to the community - a 100th Anniversary Exhibit “Through the Looking Glass, A Journey with the Storytellers.”. After 100 years, the Historical Society has a large collection of images and artifacts of New Bern’s history that have not previously been on display. We will be able to view these at the North Carolina History Center during our visit.
Of course, the trip includes time for enjoying any of New Bern's wonderful selection of restaurants for lunch on your own and shopping for a full and unique day.
The Heritage Homes Tour is a self guided walking tour. Participants should be able to comfortably walk approximately one mile on a flat terrain.
