Harpy Eagle Nest Initiative — Basic Accommodation Status & Timing

• Current chick age: ~ 1 month old (born in July). During this period, the female remains close to the nest most of the time—good potential for extended observation.

Monitoring & additional records

• Ongoing monitoring by local stewards and community rangers; regular updates provided.

• Same additional species recorded (bush dog, Spangled Coquette) and other local fauna.

Accommodation & facilities

• Basic field accommodation (simple lodging with limited private facilities).

• Capacity: six-room double configuration depends on availability.

Hides & feeders

• One open hide available for observation/photography.

• 40 m eye level to the Nest.

Access & hours

• Access: 4x4 transfer + walk; logistics coordinated by local team.

Practical notes

• More basic infrastructure and a closer community-driven conservation focus.

• Well suited for field-oriented photographers who accept simpler lodging in exchange for close, community‑led conservation work.

• Limited capacity—early reservation required.

Shared considerations

• Booking: space at either site is constrained by room availability and hide rotation; confirm as early as possible.

• Behavioural updates: teams at both sites will share real‑time updates; itineraries may be adjusted to maximize ethical viewing opportunities.

• Health & safety: check vaccination and travel recommendations; bring suitable field clothing and rain protection.

• Conservation impact: revenue supports local monitoring, community rangers and habitat restoration.

• First night in Harpy Eagle Reserve ECOSYSTEM.

• Transfer from Vista Hermosa to Alto Guapaya (approx. 1.5 hours)

• Hike from Alto Guapaya into the Harpy Eagle ecosystem (approx. 1.5–2.5 hours, depending on individual pace and physical condition)

Trail Notes:

• Total distance: 3.3 km from the starting point at Alto Guapaya

• The trail is mostly easy walking, with two short 45-degree inclines (approx. 200 meters each); the remainder is flat and winds through the forest

• Expect high temperatures and humidity in the area

• Horseback riding is available for those who prefer it — just let us know in advance
