Wonderful trip. Highlights were the surfing, yoga (Adele is probably the best yoga instructor i've ever had), food, and people. Rustic accommodations in the middle of the jungle. I would absolutely go back!

Costa Rica Retreat 14-21 May

I had such a fantastic time at Rise Up Costa Rica. The team was wonderful, food was great, and I feel confident getting up on my board now! Not to mention the other activities and adventures exploring the jungle were great. Couldn't recommend more ! 

This trip was incredible. Everyone involved was kind, fun, professional, organized and so talented. We were constantly doing unique activities yet everything went smooth and still felt so relaxing. The week was very well orchestrated, the food was great, hotel was beautiful and clean, and the instruction was top notch. Everything felt very safe and they made everything easy for us. Definitely doing other Rise Up trips in the near future!!

Costa Rica Retreat 23 - 30 April

This was my third trip with Rise Up. Coaches are supportive and meet you where you are at. The food is always fantastic, they go above and beyond to accommodate any dietary needs. They take such good care of you. Best of all, laughter, new friends and memories. I'll be back as soon as I can. 

Your Retreat with Rise Up Surf Ria Hunt April 16-23

Great location, with right-hand point breaks everywhere. Friendly & helpful staff & surf coaches. Food was great (though was sometimes a bit protein-light at lunch time). Great dinners, with a different dessert every night. 

Rooms at Encanta La Vida were well maintained, with overhead fans to keep the bugs at bay when sleeping. Hammocks and comfy chairs for lounging. Nice pool for cooling off and for doing surf theory lessons (eg., paddle strokes). Bar prices are a bit high, even with the daily happy hour discount. The jungle is right outside your door, with birds, monkeys, lizards, iguanas, and crabs galore!

Surf coaching is as intense or hands-off as you'd like. I prefer to just go have fun and not worry too much about skill building, but others are there to push their limits and increase abilities; coaches are great at asking who wants what, who's working on what, and what goals people have for the week. I surfed maybe 1/2 or 1/3rd as much as everyone else, and that was fine with me; others went out frothing 2-3 times a day. 

The non-surf adventures were also a lot of fun, without being too intense or taking time/energy away from surf, as they were scheduled to happen when the tide or sun was least optimal for surf. I didn't do the horseback ride but heard it was a blast, especially as much of the ride happened to coincide with the first big rainstorm of the week! Tree climbing was great and was adjustable to skills/comfort levels -- the tree has a wide range of climbing difficulties so anyone can enjoy the experience. The jungle hike to get to the tree was also educational, as our guide was full of knowledge about the local sloths, birds, and snakes.. Finally, the waterfall walk was an easy stroll to a waterfall for a swim & an exfoliating mud mask.

Overall, I would put Rise Up in Matapalo, Osa, CR very near the top of other Rise Up experiences - perhaps just below Aposentillo, Nicaragua and well above Mechapa, Nicaragua. 

If you're looking for point breaks, Matapalo is definitely worth the time; if you're OK with beach breaks, Aposentillo is a good option too. 

Deposit Rise Up Surf Retreat

The experience was amazing. I came with my two 14 year olds. We were all different levels. after surfing kids played cards with instructors or in the pool as I did yoga and slept. The food was amazing. The instructors were incredible, kind, clear communicators. We all were sad to leave. It felt like a big family.

Your Retreat in Guatemala with Rise Up from 29 Jan - 12 Feb

I'm probably going to be very biased as this is the first surf retreat I have ever taken and it totally surpassed my expectations.

First it was the people. The Rise Up Surf team of instructors, guides and chefs were amazing. So helpful, so kind, so patient, so respectful, so encouraging and so caring. On the water and off! Their number one goal was making sure you felt welcome, as a single traveller that can be a little scary, and almost immediately that disappeared from the moment I stepped out of the car.

The surf coaching. Wow. This was the most fun bit ever. Finding the right waves for your level and getting you on as many as possible and pushing you gently to the next level. There was a much more advanced surfer in this group and I could see he was catered for as well as the more novices ; )

The yoga and other activities were so good too. And whether we did them as a group or on one I went on by myself, they were all equally as fun. Highly recommend wake boarding even though I only made it to my knees.. still a lot of work to do on my upper body strength apparently!

The food... so much delicious food... all I can say is we ate well! So much fresh local food!

To summarize I'm already thinking about when can I go on another retreat again!

Rise Up exceeded all my expectations for a retreat. The instructors were fantastic, fun and caring. The yoga instructor was incredible at his job and the daily practice he provided was invigorating and provided the inner peace and balance we all hope to achieve during yoga. The chef accommodated my special dietary needs with some beyond delicious meals. She was also so caring and kind. The accommodations were comfortable, modern and beautiful. It was resort living in the middle of the jungle! A special shoutout to Fran and all his hard work to provide every guest with the best experience possible. That did not go unnoticed! This was my second trip in less than 6 months, and it absolutely did not disappoint. If you want a local experience at some of the best breaks in Nicaragua this trip is for you! Corina and Phil somehow bring together an amazing group (both the staff and guests), and the team does an exceptional job at curating a unique experience for any age and experience level. From tortilla making with a local woman to beautiful warm surf with knowledgeable coaches to breathtaking views and accommodations to delicious meals and much more. For some, this was a life changing trip and for others they upskilled their surfing and relaxed into the eve. You can make it whatever you want, but one thing is certain, you will walk away with memories that will last a lifetime, new friends, and a deepened stoke for surfing. This was my first solo trip to Central America, and as a 23-year-old woman that speaks very little (to no) Spanish, this was the easiest trip I could have imagined. Everything was handled by the Rise Up Team, and they were very communicative throughout the whole process. I came on this trip to learn how to surf, and while I wasn't prepared for how physically tiring surfing would be, the mechanics of actually catching a wave were taught so well that I popped up on my third wave ever. Our group was phenomenal, and all of us left with new friendships and a desire to return to our Rise Up familia in the future. Thank you Melqui, Tori, and Jenna! Su made the most delicious food, and Mattie took the best photos! We love you!!!

The trip was such an amazing adventure. The surf instructors were very good and knew all of the local spots. We were usually the only ones in the water when we were surfing. The waves couldn't have been better for beginner/intermediate surfers. High tide was very early but that first wave washes away any sleepin your eyes. The food really stole the show of the week. First and second breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all so delicious. there is not a boring moment the entire week literally from sun up to sun down. The eco-lodge was very nice as well. It was quite warm even at night so the fans were a must for sleeping... Our surfing ability increased so much in just six days, I can't thank the instructors enough - they were boombastic. You guys made the trip !!! 

Fantastic week with Rise Up in Nicaragua. Great instructors for both yoga and surf! Phil and the staff went above and beyond for my daughter’s 15th birthday with some classic Nicaraguan traditions. We had a blast!

The best waves I've ever surfed - I wasn't sure how much I could improve my surfing in one week (I've been surfing for a year 2-3 times a week in LA), but Phil and Corina's team (Matt, Aaron, Lance, Wilmer) pushed me out of my comfort zone and into waves I would have been too scared to surf without them (6-8ft walls in Pan Dulce - amazing!!!!!!). It's amazing what little things you learn in the water next to expert surfers.

Getting a ride all the way from the far end of a point to the beach (like almost a minute ride, seriously) is enough to get anyone stoke as well.

The food, logistics, transportation, nature (monkeys every day, just hanging out in the trees above!), boards (some great longboards!), and waves made this an unforgettable experience.

If you happen to be debating whether it's worth it, believe me, it is!!! To note, I was neither the most advanced (duh) or most beginner surfer there - there were a couple of surfers who were brand new who were incredibly good for the time they had spent by the end.

I've stayed with Rise Up four times already, throughout Nicaragua, Guatemala and now Costa Rica. And it has been memorable and inspiring every single time! Aside from the amazing surf coaching, yoga and land adventures, Rise Up creates an environment that makes you feel welcome and a part of the family. I always come alone and leave with more friends every single time. LOL

Rise Up Surf Retreat Costa Rica

We had a great time with Rise Up. This was our second trip with them and it won’t be our last. Looking forward to continuing to improve our skills!

Rise Up was such an incredible experience. It completely exceeded my expectations which were already high, based on feedback that I had received from a friend who attended a few weeks earlier. I learned to surf, galloped down the beach on horseback, hiked to waterfalls, and met the most amazing group of people. I highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to be challenged and experience one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Surf and Yoga

I mean... Where do I begin?? My week with Rise Up was the best experience ever! This was my 2nd surf camp with them and honestly, I wasn't sure this trip could beat my first experience. I was so wrong. From the moment I arrived it felt like coming home. 

Loved the spot they picked in Costa Rica. Encanta La Vida is this lovely hotel tucked away in a remote part of Osa. The food was amazing, the staff was very accommodating and friendly, and the Rise Up team created the best vibe for the week. 

They're doing smaller groups, which gave the week more of a family style feel. We ate all of our meals together and spent a lot of quality time together, and I do mean quality. I'm very much an introvert and couldn't get enough of my new friends. I may have shed a tear or several when I had to say goodbye at the end of my glorious week. 

 The surf instruction was phenomenal. I had Francisco, who was the best! But the other guys would weigh in if they were in the water with me. They work well as a team. I am very much a beginner but really stepped up my skills in the week that I was there. Francisco is super patient, very encouraging, and loves to see us do well. I pushed harder because of it. 

The yoga was fantastic! I've been practicing for years and with Adele I actually learned a new way to approach some of the poses, which at this stage of my journey isn't common for me. Adele is just that good! She adjusted the flows to what we needed given our surf days, and her energy is the best combination of yogi zen and and spirited fun girl. She's great!

They had so many fun activities planned for us. Hikes, Climbing trees, horseback riding along the ocean... I had a blast!

Covid testing and other measures put a bit of a wrench into things, but Corina and Phil help walk you through all you need to know so that you're not stressing. 

Honestly I just can't say enough great things about Rise Up. I cannot wait to book my next week with them. 

This is my 4th trip with Rise Up and maybe my favorite. I can't believe that places this beautiful actually exist. Ojo Del Mar where we stayed is so special with some of the best meals I can remember having (all home cooked by lovely people). The surf breaks are breathtaking and surfable on big and small days. The coaching always steps my surf game up by leaps and bounds. The Rise up Familia does such an amazing job bringing strangers together so that they feel like family by the end of the week. Too much beauty to describe in a review....just go join them.

An exceptional trip. The crew is beyond amazing. I’ve never surfed a day in my life coming from inland Georgia. I left with the skill set and tools need to build my new surfing and obsession. You’ll be well taken care of, loads of side adventures, and some yoga to fill in the much needed stretching post surf! Book your trip yesterday. I’ll definitely attend a Rise Up retreat again. 

I consider Rise Up a forever family. I had such an amazing life changing trip. My goal was to advance my surfing and I came back with so much more. I didn’t expect the adventures, such AMAZING FRESH ORGANIC FOOD, friendships, and giving back to the Nicaraguan community. When I go to a new country I always want to connect to the community, I don’t want to feel like a disconnected visitor. I highly recommend taking a minute and introducing yourself to their amazing staff to the security to the kitchen, everyone is so lovely and they all have interesting stories and warm hearts. 

The surfing coaches Melqui & Fran are my buds forever. They are hilarious & made the trip so so fun. I felt so comfortable with everyone and I their feedback & tips on my surfing made a world of difference. 

Also, even before my trip started I knew I was in good hands with Phil & Corina. I asked probably too many annoying questions within the months before my trip and they were so very communicative and patient with me! My flight was cancelled and they rescheduled and accommodated me. As a solo female I felt like I was visiting a friend because at one point I was in contact with them everyday and they checked in with me before and during my trip. 

Another reason I chose Rise Up is that they really care about improving the Nicaraguan community. we donated school supplies & drinks to a local school there. The teachers told us that Phil & Corina donated desks, doors, and more to the school. They also train girls to surf & teach a English to give them an opportunity to teach at Rise Up which would open so many doors & opportunities for them. I can’t recommend this resort more. 

I’m already planning my next trip in the following year. Looking forward to doing Rise Up in Costa Rica & other countries. Thank you millions for everything 💗

This was an amazing retreat where good friends, amazing coaches, cooks, cleaners and hosts took care of each other. We laughed until we cried and surfed until we were water-logged. Thank you RISE UP!!

Rise Up Surf Trip 2020

My week surfing in Guatemala was amazing, I can not wait to go back!  
As always, Rise Up has delivered a fantastic retreat.  Every aspect of the week surpassed expectation.  The resort was beautiful with such a lavish pool!  Jamie outdid herself, as always, providing the most amazing meals, and fresh juices to power us through all of our activities.   While the surf was not the easiest for the days of the retreat, the top notch instructors made sure that everyone focused on their surf goals, got better, and had FUN!  After all out hard work paddling, our restorative yoga classes were the perfect solution.  As an extra activity, we had the opportunity to visit a local NGO, La Choza Chula.   We learned about their great work in the community and then had the opportunity to visit a local home for a cooking class, such a great experience!  I cannot recommend Rise Up Surf tours enough, and will continue to go back year after year.  In the meatime I will continue to pour over all the beautiful photos taken by their photographer Emy (Salty Sea).

Rise Up Retreat Guatemala

The trip exceeded expectations! Wonderful surf and yoga instruction, and a beautiful place to stay. The food was also amazing (and plentiful). So glad I did this retreat, highly recommend it! 

As always, we had an epic week with the rise up crew @ swell Guatemala. The accommodation was perfect, the food was great and the beach was infinitely long. I have to say that the beach break was way too fast for my skill level so I wouldn’t recommend it for intermediate surfers or longboarders  (ok for beginners who wants to learn in the white waves as they are big enough for a challenge). 

An amazing trip! The place we stayed at was outstanding. The food was great. The instructors were the best! Would definitely book again with rise up!!

We had the most beautiful time with Rise Up in Costa Rica! The accommodations were beautiful. We loved the pool, bar, and our room. Not to mention the food and the countless monkey and toucan encounters!

The surfing was a blast. So many perfect breaks. We could not have asked for more. Hoping to surf with Rise Up again soon!
