      About this trip

Holiday Greetings to the Porters Neck Home & Garden Club!

Join your club members for an evening trip to one of the Southeast's premier holiday festivals, Night of A Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens.

Brookgreen Gardens, America’s first sculpture garden consisting of four former colonial rice plantations, is located just 18 miles south of Myrtle Beach.  It is the floral jewel of South Carolina’s coastal community.   Named by Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 Event, Night of a Thousand Candles offers nights of holiday magic when visitors stroll through sculpture gardens lit by thousands of luminaries and twinkling lights while enjoying an  array of musical performances.

The Gardens come to life amid the soft glow of more than 5,500 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights.  Crowd favorites  include the beautiful Cranberry Pool, the Live Oak Allee dripping with thousands of lights and the Model Train Exhibit.  Visitors also love the Fountain of the Muses and the Majestic Pegasus all dressed out for this beloved annual event.   Walk the paths with a warm cup of cider, hear the sounds of hand bells ringing, carolers singing, and celebrate the season with the nightly lighting of the 80-foot-tall Holiday Fir tree.

      Cancellation Policy

This is a rain or shine event.  In the rare case of a severe winter storm, the trip will be rescheduled to an alternate date during the 2022 season.  If a passenger cannot join the alternate trip date, a trip refund will be issued for the 2023 season.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Super trip! Patty and her bus driver Donny are wonderful! Patty always gives us a great time with snacks on the way, water bottles throughout the day to keep us hydrated. The homes, gardens and historic sites we saw were well worth it. A great day trip. Be sure to see Beaufort, NC.

Patty always runs a first class trip. Luxury coach, snack and water; rest area stops on longer trips. Patty provides tons of information in advance on the trip itself and area. Always enjoy her trips!
