About this trip

Holiday Greetings to the Porters Neck Home & Garden Club!

Join your club members for an evening trip to one of the Southeast's premier holiday festivals, Night of A Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens.

Brookgreen Gardens, America’s first sculpture garden consisting of four former colonial rice plantations, is located just 18 miles south of Myrtle Beach.  It is the floral jewel of South Carolina’s coastal community.   Named by Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 Event, Night of a Thousand Candles offers nights of holiday magic when visitors stroll through sculpture gardens lit by thousands of luminaries and twinkling lights while enjoying an  array of musical performances.

The Gardens come to life amid the soft glow of more than 5,500 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights.  Crowd favorites  include the beautiful Cranberry Pool, the Live Oak Allee dripping with thousands of lights and the Model Train Exhibit.  Visitors also love the Fountain of the Muses and the Majestic Pegasus all dressed out for this beloved annual event.   Walk the paths with a warm cup of cider, hear the sounds of hand bells ringing, carolers singing, and celebrate the season with the nightly lighting of the 80-foot-tall Holiday Fir tree.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

The trip was very good. Enjoyed the day hike, would of liked a little more but know the second hike was cancelled due to difficulty for bus to navigate the access road. Maybe also had a little more time in Asheville. Patty was an excellent guide and had everything well organized. The accommodations were good and centrally located.

As usually Patty did a fantastic job planning every aspect of the trip. We had a wonderful, effortless time since she did all the work.

I had a fantastic time!! I particularly enjoyed the LaZoom Comedy bus tour. 1 1/2 hours of hysterical fun while learning about Asheville's history and present day points of interest!!! And a glass of wine can go along with you on the bus. Beautiful hotel with spacious rooms and a cool rooftop bar and comfy outdoor furnishings.

We had a great time. The experience was great with the most wonderful people. Special thanks to Patty for making sure everyone was getting the most out of the experience. (especially on the LaZoom Bus)

Another awesome trip with Patty! Perfect day for a hike to see several waterfalls, followed by a fun comedy historic bus tour of Asheville. Start to fun finish shopping in BlackMountain, planning and execution was fun for 40+ people.
