The Day of the Dead (or Día de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico on October 31, November 1 and November 2, each year. It’s found throughout Latin America, but is most associated with the parades, altars, and cemetery celebrations in Mexico. During this time, locals believe that the veil between the world of the spirits and the living is lifted, so their deceased loved ones can travel back for a visit. Nowhere is it observed with more color and pageantry than in Oaxaca, which is why each year the city welcomes thousands of visitors who come to witness this unique affirmation of life and what follows. Día de los Muertos is testament to the belief that death is definitely not an end but rather an extension of life, that the spirits of the dead not only still exist but return home annually to visit their families and loved ones. Everywhere is the pungent smell of burning copal together with the aromas of special mole and bread. Streets are festooned with flowers and shop windows decorated with skeletons, while all over the city cemetery vigils and lovingly fashioned altars are being readied to ensure that the departed will find their way home and be greeted with their favorite music, food and drink.

program, where you can learn more about this unique tradition that comes from our

descendants since centuries ago.

We will gather at our office downtown where We will have brief talk about día de Muertos, an explanation about the tradition of día de los Muertos in Oaxaca. Then we will drive from OET office to our house in Atzompa. Here we will have a ceremony to purifying our body and soul. After the ceremony We will enjoy a traditional dinner (traditional tamal and hot chocolate & bread), and of course We will have some Mezcal. After enjoying a delicious dinner. We will drive few blocks to the cemetery of Atzompa.

Here you can admire the families that meet, year after year, to visit and decorate the graves of their beings dear waiting for the arrival of their souls. Cemetery is full of mysticism and enthusiasm of the local people to maintain their cempasuchil tombs, flowers, candles, music and food, as part of a spiritual reunion with their loved ones.
