A golf experience on Ireland’s West Coast usually has you arriving at Shannon International Airport, which literally splits the country from the north and the south. Most who travel to Ireland for the first time, are drawn to the big-name courses that line the southwest coast. However, if you were to turn left instead of right out of Shannon and head north towards Galway to Sligo to Donegal and all the way up to Ballyliffin, you will discover some of Ireland’s finest and most economical gems!
If Robert Frost were a golfer and based on a passage in one of his famous poems, The Road Not Taken, “…Two roads diverged in a wood, and I…I took the one less traveled by…And that has made all the difference“… then it would be fair to say that Robert might have taken that left turn out of Shannon and headed north. And he would have been right!
If you are willing to follow a similar logic in your decision, then be prepared to be rewarded. Not only will you be able to experience some hidden gems, but you will also experience the many intangibles that make Ireland such an authentic place to visit, never mind to play golf!
