The moment you've been waiting for has finally arrived: this is when your Ugandan safari begins. After a few brief formalities and an introduction to your guide, we'll start this journey together and begin to discover all of the amazing experiences Uganda has to offer.
Northern Uganda's largest town, Gulu is divided into a compact central business district centered on an overflowing market, and a leafy and more northerly administrative and residential district. Separated by a valley, both districts are enjoyable to explore on foot.
You'll arrive to your guesthouse, where you will be welcomed by the Acholi community, to kick off this truly unique adventure in Uganda
Full-day experience with the Acholi community. During this all day adventure, you will have a village walk, visit the craftsman, participate in meal preparations in some homes, and dance together. Learn about food, crafts, music, and the oral storytelling traditions of this ancient culture.
Return to your guesthouse in the evening.
Take off in the morning and drive to Kidepo Savannah Lodge.
Here you will have lunch in a beautiful safari park on the western boundary of the park.
In the late afternoon, you will take off for your game drive in Kidepo Park. Come to Kidepo Valley National Park for the wildlife, but be equally blown away by the mountanious scenery and sense of being miles off of any beaten track. Here, you can see several kinds of wildlife - including lions (if nature allows), elephants, buffalos, giraffes, and zebras. Kidepo's bird checklist also includes over 470 species, several of which are recorded nowhere else in Uganda (most famously, East Africa's only wild population of the spectacular rose-ringed parakeet). It's one of the best places anywhere to see the long-limbed, ground-dwelling patas monkey.
Spend the evening in a safari tent on the western boundary of Kidepo Valley National Park. This savannah lodge is an traditional tented camp that offers wonderful views over the Narus Valley. Simple but furnished, the lodge is ideally located for drives along the park's most productive wildlife viewing circuits.
Set off for Timu, where you will meet the Ik tribe - a group of former hunter gatheres who today live on the extreme northeastern corner of the country. They currently successfully practice farming and bee-keeping and are known for their love of the environment and their cultural heritage.
In the morning, you'll spend time immersing yourselves in the hearth of this culture, fostering cultural exchange and supporting local livelihoods.
You'll share a lunch together, and then head to Kaabong for panoramic views of the East Africa Rift amidst the traditional villages of the ik community.
Spend time exploring this lush forest that has served the community for many basic livelihood needs such as food, fuelwood, medivine, meat, honet and water. The biodiversity in this forest and surroundings is unexplored and undocumented. The fast wilderness has the potential of becoming a heaven for off-the-beaten path nature seekers, cultural tourists, outdoor adventurists and bird watchers.
Return back to your eco-camp for dinner.
In the morning, set out for Moroto, where you will continue to be fully immersed in Ugandan culture - this time with the Karimojong people.
