Picture a laid-back adventure through northern Vietnam with a small crew of just six people, where everything feels personal, unrushed, and a little bit wild. We’ll start by soaking up the buzz of Hanoi, coffee on street corners, wandering the Old Quarter, and easing into the rhythm of Vietnam, before heading north for the highlight of the trip: four unforgettable days riding motorbikes around the Ha Giang Loop. Think dramatic mountain passes, quiet villages, endless views, and plenty of stops to take it all in, with nights spent in beautiful local homestays and cozy glamping spots under the stars. After the mountains, we’ll slow things down again in Ha Long Bay, cruising past limestone islands, swimming, relaxing on the deck, and enjoying good food with great company. It’s a perfect mix of adventure and downtime, authentic local experiences, and relaxed group travel, designed to feel more like a road trip with friends than a typical tour.
We will arrive into the capital city of Hanoi where we will transfer to the Old Quarter of town. We will rest up and recover from the inevitable jet lag. We will also have ourselves a welcome dinner to get acquainted with one another.
Day 1: Hanoi – Ease In & Eat Well
We’ll kick things off by arriving in Hanoi before heading out to explore the city at a relaxed pace. The afternoon is all about getting a feel for Hanoi, wandering through the Old Quarter’s narrow streets, watching daily life unfold, popping into local shops, and stopping for a strong Vietnamese coffee or a cold beer when we feel like it. As evening rolls in, we’ll join a guided street food walking tour, weaving through busy alleys and hidden corners to sample Hanoi’s best bites, from steaming bowls of phở and crispy bánh cuốn to grilled meats and sweet treats you’d never find on your own. We’ll finish the night full, happy, and buzzing from our first taste of Vietnam, with time to grab a drink or head back and rest up for the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Hanoi to Ha Giang – Road Trip North
Day two is all about the journey north. We’ll leave Hanoi early in the morning and settle in for a long but scenic bus ride toward Ha Giang, watching the landscape slowly change from busy city streets to rice fields, rolling hills, and quiet countryside. After a few stops along the way to stretch, snack, and grab coffee, we’ll arrive in Ha Giang in the late afternoon and meet our local guides. As the sun starts to dip, we’ll officially begin the Ha Giang Loop with our first ride, an easy, scenic introduction that gets us straight into the mountains. We’ll end the day at our first cozy local homestay, where we’ll share a home-cooked dinner, get to know our hosts, and settle in for the night, ready for the full days of riding and exploring ahead.
Day 3: Ha Giang Loop – Big Views & Borderlands
Today is where the Ha Giang Loop really shows off. We’ll spend the day riding through some of the most jaw-dropping scenery in northern Vietnam, winding mountain roads, deep valleys, limestone peaks, and endless viewpoints that make you want to stop every five minutes for photos. Along the way, we’ll pass through remote villages and make our way up toward the Chinese border, standing at the edge of Vietnam with sweeping views that feel completely untouched. The riding is scenic and steady, with plenty of breaks to soak it all in. By late afternoon, we’ll roll into one of the most beautiful spots imaginable for the night, trading our bikes for comfort as we settle into a stunning glamping site surrounded by nature. As the sun sets, we’ll relax, enjoy a great meal, and take in the silence and stars, ending the day feeling like we’re a million miles from everything.
Day 3: Ha Giang Loop – Final Ride & Farewell Views
Our last full day on the Ha Giang Loop is all about savoring every moment. We’ll wake up surrounded by epic scenery, enjoy a slow breakfast, and then hop back on the bikes for one final day of riding through the mountains. The route takes us along some of the loop’s most iconic roads, high passes, sweeping curves, and viewpoints that somehow keep getting better, mixed with quieter stretches through small villages and farmland. We’ll stop often for photos, coffee, and lunch along the way, keeping the pace relaxed and fun. By late afternoon, we’ll make our way to our final homestay, where we can kick back, share stories from the road, and celebrate the end of an unforgettable loop with a home-cooked dinner and a cozy night in the mountains.
Day 4: Ha Giang Loop – Easy Ride Back & Return to Hanoi
Our final morning on the loop starts slow, with breakfast at the homestay and one last chance to soak up the mountain air before hopping back on the bikes. Today’s ride is an easier, more relaxed stretch, winding through valleys, rivers, and familiar scenic roads as we make our way back to Ha Giang town. We’ll take a few final photo stops and coffee breaks before arriving in the early afternoon to return the bikes and freshen up. After a final meal together in Ha Giang, we’ll board our bus back to Hanoi and settle in for the evening journey south, watching the mountains fade into the distance. We’ll arrive back in Hanoi later that night, tired, happy, and full of stories from an unforgettable few days on the road.
Day 6: Hanoi – Rest, Wander & Reset
Day six is all about slowing things down after the adventure of the Ha Giang Loop. With no set schedule, this is a true rest day to recharge and enjoy Hanoi at your own pace. Sleep in, ease into the morning with a coffee by Hoan Kiem Lake, book a massage, or simply wander the streets and soak up the atmosphere. For those feeling curious, there’s time to explore museums, shop for souvenirs, or try a few cafés and local eats you may have missed earlier. We’ll come together later in the day if we feel like it for a relaxed dinner or drinks, sharing stories from the road and enjoying the comfort of being back in the city before the next part of the journey.
Day 7: Ha Long Bay – Cruise Day 1 (Overnight on the Bay)
On day seven, we’ll leave Hanoi in the morning and head east toward Ha Long Bay, watching the city slowly give way to coastline and sea views. By late morning, we’ll board our overnight cruise and set sail into the bay, gliding past towering limestone islands and calm emerald water. After settling into our cabins, we’ll enjoy lunch on board as we cruise deeper into the bay, followed by a relaxed afternoon of activities, kayaking through hidden coves, swimming, or simply stretching out on the deck and soaking up the scenery. As the sun begins to set, we’ll unwind with drinks on deck before sitting down for dinner on the boat. The night is spent anchored in the bay, surrounded by silence, stars, and glowing karst formations, an unforgettable way to end the day.
Day 8: Ha Long Bay – Cruise Day 2 & Return to Hanoi
Our final day on the cruise begins with an early morning wake-up to catch the sunrise over Ha Long Bay, a perfect moment for photos or simply soaking in the calm beauty of the water. After a light breakfast, we’ll enjoy a few more hours of cruising past dramatic limestone cliffs, stopping at a cave or floating village along the way. There’s time for a last swim or kayak session, or just relaxing on deck with a coffee as the scenery drifts by. By late morning, we’ll start heading back to the harbor, disembark, and then make the drive back to Hanoi. We’ll arrive in the city by the afternoon or early evening, marking the end of the cruise and giving everyone some free time to rest, explore, or enjoy a final dinner in Hanoi before wrapping up this northern Vietnam adventure.
We will transfer to Hanoi Airport where we will take our returning flights home
