We offer you a free transfer from "Aeropuerto Internacional de Oaxaca, OAX" to our joining hotel. They will be waiting for you at reception, and you'll be able to check in from 1 PM.

After the meeting, we go for our first Group Dinner. Get ready to taste your first Mexican delicacies! Afterwards, you are welcome to have a 'mescal' and enjoy the nightlife in Oaxaca! At this time you will meet the rest of the crew and other passengers.

* During the two nights we stay in Oaxaca City, it is a good chance to make some laundry (around 150 MXN).

About Oaxaca:

The city and municipality of Oaxaca de Juárez, or simply Oaxaca, is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of the same name. It is located in the Central Valleys region of the state, on the foothills of the Sierra Madre at the base of the Cerro del Fortín extending to the banks of the Atoyac River. This city relies heavily on tourism, which is based on its large number of colonial-era structures as well as the native Zapotec and Mixtec cultures and archeological sites. It, along with the archeological site of Monte Albán, were named a World Heritage Site in 1987. It is also the home of the month-long cultural festival called the "Guelaguetza", which features Oaxacan dance from the seven regions, music and a beauty pageant for indigenous women.

The name Oaxaca is derived from the Nahuatl name for the place, Huaxyacac, which was Hispanicized to Guajaca, later spelled Oaxaca. The coat of arms for the municipality bears the image of the decapitated Donaji, who was an indigenous princess in the years immediately after the Conquest.

Visit Monte Alban Archeological Site
Stay at Hotel posada del Centro in Oaxaca City Centre

After an Included Breakfast, we drive 10 Km to the Zapotec Ruins of Monte Alban, where our amazing local guide will explain to us everything about the ancient cultures of Mexico.

* Monte Albán is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site. The partially excavated civic-ceremonial center is situated atop an artificially-leveled ridge. In addition to the monumental core, the site is characterized by several hundred artificial terraces, and a dozen clusters of mounded architecture covering the entire ridgeline and surrounding flanks.

We will finish the visit at lunch time. We will prepare some sandwiches in advance for when you finish the visit (it is not allowed to eat inside the ruins).

We have a free afternoon back in Oaxaca. We will have a little explanatory meeting about the Sierra Norte Trek that waits for us; and you will have some free time to prepare everything for next days.We also reccomend you to visit San Francisco Ex Convent Museum this afternoon if you didn't have the chance yesterday.

- Visit San Francisco Ex Convent Museum: 65 MXN.

Visit Hierve el Agua Springs and a Family Run Mezcal Factory
Stay at Centro Ecoturistico Cabanas Llano Grande at Llano Grande

Today we have a full day visiting the top four attractions around Oaxaca surroundings areas accompanied by our local guide. Prepare your daypack and include swimmers and towel, walking shoes, and some cash to buy Mescal!

We will pack our lugagge around 9 AM and start driving to our first stop: Hierve el Agua Springs, another one of the 10 Top Mexico Natural Atractions. In there you can enter the natural pools and/or do a short trek. Afterwards, we will have a basic lunch at the little restaurant of Alicia, that will show us how to prepare some good "tortillas". ;-)

Then, we will have a short drive to a Moonshine authentic Mezcal Factory ("Explain about mezcal"); Buy some for your relatives after a bit of tasting!

In the afternoon, we drive to the Community of Llano Grande, where we stay in an ecoturistic centre, with a mix of multishared cabins and/or camping.

We will have the full afternoon to relax and cook something nice, fire in the evning?! ;-)

* Please take into account that depending on the road conditions we may need to change of transport for the last part of the route.

La Sierra Norte de Oaxaca is a heavily wooded region in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.The area has one of the best-preserved biospheres in Mexico, as well as a number of interesting towns and villages. The region promotes ecotourism to help preserve the biosphere. It is also one of richest zones of biodiversity in Mexico, with 400 species of birds and 350 species of butterflies. It contains seven of the nine types of vegetation indigenous to the country.

Various peoples of the region include the Zapotecs, Mixes, Chinantecs, Tlaxcaltecs and the Nahuas.
