About this trip

If it is beautiful scenery, delightful wildlife and non-stop sunshine you are after, then this holiday is for you. Come and enjoy a relaxing 4-night or 7-night walking holiday at Figs on the Funcho with direct views over Barragem do Funcho and the river. Take in the beautiful views and experience some of the wonderful sights surrounding our idyllic location.

On your walking holiday in the Algarve you will enjoy the tranquillity of the beautiful riverside location where you’ll find plenty of walking paths on the doorstep that will take you down to the waterfront, as well as enjoying clear night skies and stunning sunsets.

What’s included

Included in this package is accommodation in a well-appointed and relaxing double room, breakfast each day and dinner each evening. Lunch at Figs on the Funcho is included on most days depending on the walking route chosen. We will also come and pick you up from the airport at an agreed time. 

There’s one of a few things that are not included, and they include entrance fees to any of the local attractions we visit whilst out sight-seeing, your drinks at Figs on the Funcho (we have an honesty bar at your disposal), and some lunches.

What you can expect

This holiday is an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors in one of Europe’s most stunning locations and to explore the wonderful Algarve walking routes.


Some walks will be led by expert guides and some by Cheryl, or Graham and adjusted to suit all the needs of the group. Whether you are keen to hike or just want to explore this region and its hidden beauty, your guide will ensure this trip is perfect for you.


As well as immersing yourself in the Algarve’s culture by visiting the idyllic towns, beautiful architecture and enjoying its delicious local cuisine, you can explore its rich history including a visit to the remnants of the famous 1834 Sant’Ana battle, as well as many other historic sights such as the Necropolis of Pedreirinha, dating back to the Early Middle Ages.


This holiday is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a truly wonderful experience in a stunning and relaxing location.

What you can expect to see and do

  • Enjoy the riverside location with un-interrupted panoramic country and river views
  • See how many birds that are local to Figs on the Funcho that you can spot from the relaxed comfort of the shaded seating area
  • You’ll have direct access to the river to enjoy some time out on our tandem kayak or try some stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) 
  • Explore some of the well-marked hiking trails that you can access straight from the villa 
  • If you’re feeling adventurous there is the longer-distance Via Algarviana walking trail for serious hikers
  • Unspoilt, uncrowded, peaceful and tranquil setting off the the beaten track where you can fully relax and rejuvenate
  • You can enjoy our location all year round with very pleasant sunshine and warm temperatures even in the winter 
  • Horse riding nearby

Your Accommodation

Nestled here in this idyllic location, with direct views over Barragem do Funcho and the river is The River House. Set back in the hills and surrounded by fig and carob trees, wildflowers, and pathways winding down to the water’s edge it offers complete privacy, un-interrupted views and panoramic views, this location is not to be underestimated in terms of providing you with a peaceful and relaxing holiday that will leave you feeling revitalised and truly relaxed.

Getting here

Please note that prices for the holidays do not include flights. We recommend using www.skyscanner.net to check flights.  

Nearest airport: Faro – 45 minutes away by car.

Transfers are included in the price from Faro airport, and your hosts will arrange for a pickup on arrival day, and one transfer on departure day.

What to Bring

  • Your swimming costume to enjoy the pool and watersports on the dam. The water levels may differ depending on the time of the year and drought conditions.
  • Something warm to relax in at night.  Yoga mats available for use.
  • Sun hat and suitable footwear for walking to explore different paths and also if you plan to visit the historical town nearby, during free time, as the cobbled roads can be slippery
  • Plastic or cardboard postal tubes to take your rolled artwork home. Paper sizes provided will be no larger than an A3

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel until 30 days before arrival and you shall be entitled to a refund of the total amount paid by you to us in relation to such booking less a cancellation charge equal to the amount of the Deposit paid by you.

You will be charged the total price of the reservation if you cancel in the 30 days before arrival. If you don’t show up you will be charged the total price of the reservation.    

Covid-19

The event is held outdoors and additional safety and sanitation measures are currently in effect.
Figs on the Funcho have been awarded the Portuguese Clean&Safe seal and we work together with our cleaning company and our villa manager to ensure that our rental property’s cleaning protocol meets the “Clean & Safe” protocols by following the new villa rental hygiene guidelines.
In addition to the new holiday rental Clean&Safe guidelines, our art students attending our painting lessons will be asked to adhere to our coronavirus protocols, see details regarding our coronavirus policy

Itinerary

Day1
Arrival Day

Arrive and settle in to your accommodation. This stunning yet tranquil riverside location is surrounded with panoramic views. Welcome drinks will be hosted on the waterfront deck at sunset. Dinner will be at your leisure, where you will be able to enjoy the local cuisine of The Algarve region. You can then retreat into your beautiful rooms for the evening and relax ahead of the first full day of your walking holiday in the Algarve.
