About this trip

The Tantravaya Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive, internationally-respected program designed to deepen your understanding of yoga and Ayurvedic principles.

The Tantravaya training method is unique in that it’s not limited to any “style” or blend of styles. Instead, it emphasizes universal principles of alignment within the context of Ayurvedic and yogic practices.

Tantravaya Yoga trains exceptional teachers by presenting everything you will ever need to know in order to practice and teach any kind of yoga to anyone – safely and effectively within a system of eight principle actions. These eight principles are necessary and sufficient in every active gesture for yoga and beyond. Furthermore, the eight principles are organized into four pairs of oppositional actions that allow for ultimate individualization – customizing each gesture to each practitioner by balancing the intensity of antagonistic engagements for the specific needs of the individual body in each pose. As a recent graduate has put it: “With the eight principles, I couldn’t help but teach excellently, right from the first class, even though I was nervous.”

With exceptional attention devoted to practical training and ample teaching experience time, Tantravaya Yoga Teacher Trainings have a proven track record of producing effective, confident yoga teachers who are ready to teach upon graduation and stand out in the world of yoga.

Our program is registered with Yoga Alliance and provides the most widely-recognized yoga teacher certification credentials in the world. Our primary goal is to cultivate a solid, safe, and effective practice as the foundation of skillful teaching.

About The Center

At Mountain Waters, we offer you an enriched learning environment of beauty, sacredness and connection to nature. Our intention is to be the place where the aspiration you feel for growth, change and a deeper connection to yourself, is met by a program you take and by  something you discover inside yourself while you are here.

We offer you the opposite of distraction. Stillness, deep  learning and a space that welcomes your authenticity, whether that means joy, tears, or some other form of your Awe-some-ness. Mountain Waters is where the longing for embodied presence becomes anchored in experience.

Often this can mean taking the time to looking clearly at what stands in the way of the full expression of your life. People come here to help navigate important life transitions. To shift perspectives , to let go, or press “pause” and turn toward the quieter voice inside, that can guide the way forward.

Upon Completion Of This Course

All Teachers Will Be Able To:

Teach exceptional, inspired yoga classes

Offer high quality, individually-customized private lessons

Know which yoga techniques are best suited to themselves and their students

Use asana and movement therapies to address muscular and skeletal imbalances

Use Ayurvedic principals to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different yoga forms

About Nelson BC

Nelson is an off-the-beaten-track destination. It is a place where people still leave their cars and walk along the lakefront or down historic Baker Street with its array of shops, outdoor cafes, restaurants, and galleries. It is a small city where smiles are exchanged between strangers and the pace of everyday life unfolds on a human scale.

The city is visually stunning with hilly, tree-lined streets and the beautiful Victorian-era architecture of its founding period. The beauty of the town’s surroundings have attracted many artists and craftspeople, giving Nelson a reputation as one of the finest small arts towns in North America.

Nelson is surrounded by rugged mountains and large pristine lakes. It is home to some of the best hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking in the world. Close to hot springs and four different Provincial Parks, the Nelson area offers an almost endless variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for people of all levels of skill and ability.

Nelson is a town where quality of life is measured in clean air, and deep conversation. The town is strangely quiet on days when it is snowing up at the ski hill. Nelson is a centre for alternative and integrative approaches to health and well-being and it is the perfect place for a retreat vacation that brings together health, nature, and self-exploration.

Meet Your Teacher
Shy Sayar. Yoga Therapist. ERYT500.

Well into his third decade with yoga, Shy has tens of thousands of hours of experience bringing yoga to students of all levels, treating patients, and training yoga teachers and therapists around the globe.

Shy has offered coursework on education and pedagogy, as well as yoga philosophy and classical Indian literature at the University of California, Berkeley. In his yoga teaching, Shy integrates his experience in higher education with skillful attention to different learning styles, making even the most complex teachings approachable to every student.

Shy believes in teaching people – not poses, since the practices of yoga are infinitely adaptable to fit the practitioner’s stages of development. Instead, his Tantravaya yoga method integrates the classical Eight Limbs of Yoga, equally cultivating the body, breath and mind to bring each practitioner to optimal, holistic health.

This unique method has shown remarkable results in posture correction, pain relief and improved balance, as well as healing emotional trauma and addressing the roots of psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression.

In the heart of our journey, Kootenay Yoga School was created from a profound belief in holistic well-being. Recognizing the challenges of modern life, where daily routines can become repetitive cycles of wakefulness, nourishment, work, and rest, we felt the need for a sanctuary that transcends the ordinary. Our vision materialized as Kootenay Yoga School, an embodiment of holistic living.

The Program in Isla Mujeres with Stacy (teacher), Lisa&Addy (managers/organizers) is absolutely amazing. The villas (accomodation), food (OMG the food...delicious), activities, studying modalities and general energy/vibe is beyond perfect. I would totally recommend it and would go back today if I had the chance. I learned so much in such a comprehensive and useful way, I enjoyed all the activities proposed in the morning/afternoon/evening, and I truly loved the Island. If you are looking for a serious program, with kind and caring people, amazing food, beautiful location, and you are eager to expand your knowledge in yoga in a way that is respectful to tradition, but allows You to create your own Journey, this is the place. The price is VERY good for what You get. My only recommendation is that You want to stay few extra days before or after the program to explore the island and the mayan riviera, as the program runs all day everyday so You won't have time to be a tourist. I actually enjoyed this way of learning. This experience is great for the soul, mind, body, and breath 💙 thank You to all the amazing people at the punta sur villas and to my amazing group.

An experience I will have with me forever. Lisa the owner of Kooteney is the sweetest person ever. She always checked in to make sure everyone is okay throughout the program. The yoga shala is absolutely beautiful. There are so many positive things to say about this training. My teacher Stacy is amazing. She has so much knowledge. She traveled around the world so it was so cool to get this well-rounded experience. This program allowed me to become my best self, (evolved self). I experienced so much transformation in my practice, myself, and in conversation. This is a place where you truly blossom. SOO grateful to have taken this program and excited to use the abundance of tools I learned here in a new journey. Thank you. The food is also delicious, you are so close to one of the most beautiful beaches, such a magical place to learn, practice, and grow.

The two weeks I spent at the Joshua Tree location were truly incredible. I stayed in the shared accommodation set up and it was very comfortable and I really enjoyed the community of the shared living space. Every single day I was baffled by how delicious the food was!! Addy and Gael are kitchen magicians. The property is stunning and I loved the outdoor shower option and the bubble bath under the desert sky was nothing short of life changing. Our instructor Marcia is such an incredible human. She was so patient and so helpful. I will be holding the lessons and insights she shared with me for a long time. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I am beyond grateful for the two weeks I spent in Joshua Tree and I couldn't recommend any more highly!!!!!

Believe me when I say, just go for it! This experience was so transformative, our whole group came out as different people. From start to finish, the program was curated so beautifully. The team managed the schedule and details so well so all we needed to do was focus on immersing ourselves into the program. I truly couldn't have asked for anything better!

Everyday was a treat when we walked in for meal times and the knowledge I gained I will keep with me forever and continue to learn from. I can’t say thank you enough.

I have completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training with Kootenay Yoga School at their beautiful location in Isla Mujeres Mexico (a small Island in the Caribbean Sea). Where to start? Sign up and be totally comfortable that u’ll have the best experience. The location is in a jungle vibe, modest, clean & organized. The food is vegetarian, organic, super healthy prepared by a talented young lady - Addy the owner’s daughter, who works hard to make sure every dietary requirement is met. Lisa, the owner, is a professional woman who is very meticulous and follows up with every detail, making the experience worthy. The whole team, from Kandice, Silvia, to the kitchen staff are very helpful and kind. Stephania (Steff) our teacher made every lesson interesting and enjoyable, the fire and energy in her, the knowledge she shared in Anatomy, was outstanding as if a doctor is explaining. The course is intensive, however, well divided throughout the days. Steff is also flexible and no matter how tired one is, we would put the effort to be punctual in her classes and enjoy the information shared. I was lucky to be with amazing people from different countries and cultures, we clicked and had so much fun together. Yes, it’s hot and humid and u need mosquito repellent. It’s not that bad at all. The beach is 5’ walk from the school and it’s breathtaking. So is Punta Sur most easternmost point of Mexico and u get to see numerous iguanas in that region too. I felt so safe in the school and the whole island. 💜🧘🏻‍♀️
